ATM Fees after TD Ameritrade Transition to Charles Schwab, Inc

How is your experience with the dissolution of TD Ameritrade and transitioning to Charles Schwab in the month of September?

TD did not charge an ATM Fee. But Charles Schwab does. And calls it a “dynamic currency conversion fee” (cardholder preferred currency fee).

First, I sent a message to Schwab online. Then, after several days, I followed up with a phone call. The agent said that she would investigate it at Schwab’s processing center and get back to me.

And she did! After the long weekend, she called us.

As a favor, Schwab would be reimbursing us. So, no guaranteed refund, in other words. A favor!

What happened to automatic reimbursement of ATM fees by Schwab?

Jeremiah, long story short, Schwab does refund ATM fees at the end of each month—but only for ATM transactions at at JEP and Banco Guayquil. 0 0

The bank we used in September was Banco International. TD receipts showed no fee, but Schwab did. 0 0

actually they reimburse for most banks in EC and around the world, pretty clearly as a online bank they do not invest in their own ATM's, probably a smart move 0 0

When the issuing bank does not separate out the ATM fee, I send Schwab a photo of my ATM receipt and, after a follow-up phone call, Schwab reimburses me the fee. It always requires a follow-up call. But that is cumbersome, so I opened up an account at a local... Read more 0 0

Schwab does reimburse ATM fees for JEP ATM which is the lowest in Cuenca $1.50. It seems to depend on how the ATM is coded. 0 0

JEP is $5 per withdrawal with my Schwab card. There is a machine across the street from me that I use quite often. Schwab reimbursed all my ATM fees at the end of September. 0 0

Yes, JEP is $5, with a $500 daily limit. My Schwab Investor Checking account has never failed to reimburse me that fee. The consistency with using a JEP ATM is a benefit for me, as they always work (for me, so far). SO, the cost is immaterial after reimbursement. I... 0 0

Schwab does reimbursements once a month, not automatically. Yes, they don't reimburse the Austro bank $4 fee because its not an actual ATM fee. 0 0

When I withdraw money from my Schwab account at a JEP ATM, Schwab will reimburse the $5 fee. When I withdraw from a Banco del Austro ATM, they won't reimburse the $4 fee. I've gone round and round with Schwab on this. 0 0

I have gone down that road. The Schwab rep explained it is because BdAustro does not itemize their ATM fee to distinguish it from the withdrawal amount. Because of this, it is not apparent it is an ATM fee. If you look at a JEP withdrawal receipt, it shows ATM... 0 0

Last I checked, our ATM fees were still being reimbursed. But, to be fair, I don’t think I’ve used that ATM card for a cash withdrawal in at least 6 months. 0 0
