Flautist Luciano Carrera is the guest of the Cuenca Symphony Orchestra

Cuenca, July 8, 2021.- The Cuenca Symphony Orchestra (OSC) continues to delight us with its face-to-face and virtual concerts. This Friday, July 9, in the church of Santo Domingo (Gran Colombia and Padre Aguirre, Esquina), at 7 PM, with the biosafety protocols and capacity allowed, the face-to-face concert of the OSC will be held under the baton of its principal conductor, maestro Augusto Carrión Rodas, with the participation of the outstanding flautist from Quito, Luciano Carrera. The repertoire of this concert is: “Barber Overture of Seville” by Gioacchino Rossini, “Concerto for Flute” by Johann Joachim Quantz, Nightingale of the Andes “by Luciano Carrera and” Symphony No. 25 “by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

On Saturday, July 10, at 8:30 PM, the OSC will broadcast on Facebook another of its concerts of this first season 2021, which has as guests the OSC Brass Quintet and the brilliant pianist from Cuenca, Angélica Sánchez. You can watch this event after its transmission in the Digital Concert Hall on YouTube.

The repertoire for this online concert is: “Toreador” by Georges Bizet and “Fanfare la Peri” by Paul Dukas, the two works by the OSC Brass Quintet, “Piano Concerto KV 491 in C Minor” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Joseph Haydn’s “Symphony No. 104 in D major, London”.

Luciano Carrera, flautist and composer:

He began his musical studies with his father, maestro Manuel Mesías Carrera. At the age of 12 he studied flute with maestro Eduardo Didonato, flautist of the National Symphonic Orchestra of Ecuador (OSNE) at the National Conservatory of Music (CNM), in the city of Quito. He joined the OSNE at the age of 14 and shortly after became principal flautist, a position he held until his retirement after 52 years of service in this institution. In 1969 he obtained the title of Professor of Music, specializing in flute. Between 1971 and 1974 he was hired by the government of Costa Rica to be part of the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica as principal flautist and professor of the Youth Plan and professor at the Castella Conservatory and at the National University. He was rector of the National Conservatory of Music for 2 occasions. Since 1990 he has been the manager of the International Flautist Festival in Quito.

He has composed works that have been performed by various orchestras. He received recognitions and decorations from innumerable institutions and companies, including the Presidency of the Republic and the Mayor’s Office of Quito. Several composers have dedicated his works to him, including José Berghmans, Lucien Gothals, Gerardo Guevara, Eduardo Florencia, among others.
