Mother Cabrini Mission: A church for those hurt by religion

Mother Cabrini Mission is a newly organized church in Cuenca where all of God’s children are made to feel welcome. By design, we are a church created for those who have been hurt by religion in the past, including people who may be divorced, the LGBTQ+ community and their straight allies, the deaf, the blind, the disabled, HIV+, immigrants, the poor, the homeless, individuals with alcohol and drug addictions, those who have overcome those addictions, and people who are non-believers. All are invited to come together to learn, love, seek, and be touched by an all-loving community.

We believe that our new church can radically transform our communities toward belonging. Signing for the deaf will be offered in order that the deaf community in Cuenca might actively participate in the liturgy, understand the readings, and unite in prayer and worship. Our members are committed to bringing Christ to everyone, regardless of how they communicate.

We chose to name our church Mother Cabrini Mission in honor of Francis Xavier Cabrini, an Italian-American religious sister and the first American Saint. She is considered the Patron Saint of Immigrants, and since most of our community members are immigrants from North America and Europe, this was an appropriate choice.

We invite you to join us on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 11 AM for the celebration of the Holy Mass celebrated by Bishop Robert Ritorto, with the homily delivered by deacon elect, Leigh Mullet. We will gather for coffee and fellowship afterward. We are located in a former home at General Torres 15-88 and Alberto Munoz Vernaza in Cuenca.

We profess a more progressive theology, ordain men and women, offer open communion, and are fully affirming and inclusive of the LGBTQ community.
