Wilson the Cat, now 2 years old, was found nearly dead: burned and blinded, emaciated, and unable to walk, when he was rescued by the wonderful staff of Salvavidas Animal Rescue. He was charred, covered in ash, and could literally not even stand up for more than a few seconds without falling over. But through it all, he’s had the heart of a lion – and the temperament of a lamb.
With loving care, and a lot of veterinary attention, Wilson was nursed back to health and is now a beautiful, gentle boy who loves to play, eat, and cuddle. The terrible injuries he suffered – seemingly at the deliberate hands of humans – are no longer visible, but he has been left permanently blind. Despite this, he has adapted very well to his loss of vision, navigating his way around indoor spaces using his sense of hearing, smell, and his lustrous whiskers! He has been neutered and is up to date on all his shots.
Because of the immense trauma this brave little kitty has suffered, he is best suited as an indoor cat, where he’ll know he is safe and loved by a human to call his own. He would probably prefer to have you all to himself, but may be able to befriend another gentle male cat (he’s not too keen on girl cats though!). In fact, he has struck up a touching friendship with a male cat at the Salvavidas shelter where he currently lives, and his rescuers would ideally like him to be adopted together with his bestie, Luciano. However, they realize that this is a big ask, and the most urgent matter is to find a loving, responsible home for Wilson right now.
I offered to write this post for Salvavidas, since we adopted a blind cat ourselves in 2024, and Wilson’s case really struck a chord with us. we can honestly say that adopting our little Lily Cat has been an incredible experience, and her disability just makes her even more adorable to us. She is loving, bold, playful and sassy, and brings us joy every day!
