Greetings, Parents of Cuenca! I would like to offer up my services as a teacher/tutor-for-hire in my new community.
I taught elementary (mostly first grade) in an academically competitive district in Washington state for 20 years. Here in Ecuador, I taught small groups of students (both gringo and Ecuadorian kids) in Vilcabamba for the last 4 years.
My expertise in teaching focuses on the foundational skills of reading, writing and math and their fundamental components. My first 14 years of teaching were at a school that prioritized 90 minutes/day for reading, with a special program developed at John Hopkin’s University. At that school, I became quite skilled at addressing the academic needs of students k-5th in their minutia of learning differences and needs. I can work with students of any age who need to work at the elementary academic level.
I brought my favorite reading and math curriculums with me to Ecuador so families don’t have to supply books; I have everything we need (boxes of leveled reading books and math workbooks for K-5th), but can also adapt to a homeschool program that you may want your kids to use.
