By Jerry Price – – – $0.00 – – – It was a special night at The Renaissance Center in Detroit “back in the day” when Star Singer was singing with his show-band called, “Rob Sanders and The Windows” out of New York. The Las Vegas type floor show was booked by Dick Towers Management, Inc, (Towers was also representing the singer, Lou Rawls, who had a big hit: “you’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine”). Interestingly, the late great Ella FitzGerald was singing that night at The Detroit Renaissance Center because The USA National Governor’s Conference was taking place. American governors and their wives were all in the ballroom. Star Singer (Rob Sanders – now “Star Singer”) and The Windows were thrilling a smaller audience in the nightclub!

At the very last powerful beat of the very last song closing the show, Star Singer, griping his microphone, was supposed to jump up as high as he possibly could while the drummer slammed down on a special floor-switch that was designed to cut off all the lights, thus, creating the illusion that would leave the audience thinking Star Singer had disappeared… or something like that. Everything went according to plan. Almost. you see, Star Singer didn’t come back down from the jump according to plan. Not realizing how close he was to the front edge of the stage, he missed. Instead of landing back down on to the stage, he crashed down on to a cocktail table that was close to the stage. In the dark! And the 2 people that were sitting at that table went tumbling too! When the lights went back on…“Are you guys alright?!”, said, Star Singer. “we’re just fine, ha, ha. But, we will never forget this show!
