Ana Luisa Spanish Classes: June Session, Cultural Visits, and Trips

Join us to learn Spanish through cultural experiences, travel, and inspiring upcoming courses. Our six-week programs focus on real-life communication using a proven Oral Approach. Through storytelling, comprehensible input, and dynamic practice, you’ll naturally acquire the language instead of just memorizing it.

Connect deeply with the culture and daily life of Spanish-speaking communities. Enjoy small class sizes supported by engaging cultural lectures and optional field trips.

Important note: you do not need to be an active student to participate in our cultural activities and trips. Everyone in the community is welcome to join.

1. Cultural Visit: Sweet Traditions and Legends

Discover Corpus Christi in Cuenca!

Join us to step back in time and taste the sweetest side of Cuenca’s history. we invite you to an exclusive cultural and gastronomic experience centered around Corpus Christi: The Festival of Sweets, happening right here in the city.

  • Legends and History: Uncover the origins of this beautiful tradition and its connection to the ancestral Inti Raymi festival. Hear romantic tales of how locals fell in love during these festivities and other charming anecdotes from old Cuenca.
  • Hands-on Workshop: Learn the secrets behind traditional Andean colonial sweets. you will participate in the artisanal preparation of hostias, queditos, frutas de manjar, and tirabuzones, all made from local milk and panela.
  • Living Theater: This is not just a history lesson. The renowned Barojo Theater and Culture Group will bring the past to life with actors portraying popular characters from old Cuenca, taking you on a true journey through time.

2. Student Trip: Las Nieves – Nabón

Clay, Wheat, and Tradition: Creating Stories with the Community

Distance: 68.6 km from Cuenca, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes by bus.
Average temperature: 16°C

Itinerary:

  • 8:30 AM – Departure from Cuenca.
  • Visit to Curiquingue Lagoon followed by a short hike.
  • Head to La Jarata to make traditional bread.
  • Visit to downtown Las Nieves and its church.
  • Lunch with a local family.
  • Traditional Huactana Pottery: we will create a pottery piece using a pre-Inca technique, part of the Cañari artisanal heritage. This rustic method is practiced by locals using two stones called huactanas.
  • 5 PM – Return to Cuenca.

Fee includes: Transportation to and from Nabón, all visits, a local guide, and lunch.

  • Beginner 3: Pronouns and Core Review, Tuesdays and Fridays, 10:30 AM – 12 PM
  • Intermediate 1: Wednesdays, 10:30 AM – 12 PM and Fridays, 9 AM – 10:30 AM
  • Intermediate 2: Tuesdays and Fridays, 12 PM – 1:30 PM
  • Intermediate Review: Indicative Tenses, Mondays and Thursdays, 12 PM – 1:30 PM
  • Advanced Grammar and Verbal Moods: Mondays and Wednesdays, 9 AM – 10:30 AM

Special Conversation Courses:
Designed entirely for those who want to focus on fluency, cultural debate, and dynamic vocabulary.

  • Beginner Conversation: Cultural Survival and Confidence, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:30 PM – 3 PM
  • Intermediate Conversation: Opinions, Narratives and Debates, Wednesdays and Fridays, 1:30 PM – 3 PM
  • Advanced Conversation: Latin America: Beyond the Headlines. Critical thinking, local idioms, and language nuances. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 AM – 10:30 AM

What is included in conversation classes: Guided storytelling, grammar review through speaking, role-plays, error correction during communication, and cultural discussions.
