I am wondering what Carnival is like in Cuenca; whether the city gets as crowded as it was for the Nov 3 independence celebration or whether the city shuts down.

In Cuenca, it’s lots of water, lots of spray foam and lots of alcohol, and really, really loud music. If you like all that, you’ll love it - especially the noche de compadres which is the Thursday night at the beginning of the festivities. 0 0
It’s not a huge thing here, but it’s quite something in Paute. That’s the place to be if you want a big celebration. 0 0
