In need of sponsor for vet care/sterilization. Currently Paws with Hope is home to 7 dogs and 3 cats. We also feed 5 of our neighbors’ dogs that come here to eat daily. Meet Lucas. Lucas is one of those neighbors’ dogs, or should I say was.
A few weeks ago, Lucas started to spend more time here; he seems to have inserted himself into my pack. I have been walking him back to his house every evening, as he had owners. Monday night Lucas showed up in front of my gate with a tennis ball in his mouth – this was hours after I dropped him off at home.
He did not leave since Monday night, even though the dogs are walked past his house every day, twice a day. He walks without a leash, so he was able to return home if he wanted to. Yesterday I decided to walk him home myself to give him back to his owners. I knocked on the gate, and his owners told me they no longer want Lucas, and he is happier with me. They said he is too much of a “puppy” for them. I’m 7 months pregnant and much too tired to argue so I just said OK, and Lucas, my son and I walked home.
Lucas does seem to be happier here, as he chose this home, and I think he likes having other dogs to play with. I will not bash Lucas’s former owners, as for a local dog he seems to be cared for pretty good. I am disappointed because our number of dogs is supposed to be decreasing, not increasing. I should have known that when Lucas showed up that night with his tennis ball he was bringing his luggage and moving in. Since Lucas will be here, he needs to be sterilized just like the rest of the animals here. He also needs a flea pill and dewormer. The cost of this will be around $90. If more is donated it will be used towards vetting or grooming for the other 7 pups residing here. We have so many animals to keep up with and there is always a need that has to met.
