FLCCC Preventive Protocol and the Delta/Lambda/Iota variants

To those expats following the protocol, I’m sure you noticed the increase of ivermectin to twice weekly and the addition of gargles/nasal lavage. This is what I found in buying the latter:

Cetylpyridinium chloride, cloruro de cetilpiridinio (CPC): While many of the US brand mouthwashes sold at Coral, such as Oral B Complete has CPC, I opted to get the local brand Gingivit because it states the concentration of CPC.

Betadine: This is povidone-iodine (PI) sold as Povidyn 10% here. Gargle according to bottle directions. To make a nasal lavage, I also bought:

Mujeres Con Exito is almost half-way to our back-to-school goal

We are almost half of the way to our goal. Only $4,800 to go. Can you help us?

Our dilemma: 22 shelter children living at Casa Mara Amor + 78 shelter children living outside the shelter x $95 = $9,500. This is the amount needed to provide our children with shoes, uniforms, underwear, backpacks and supplies. (Please note: thanks to our mailing list generosity and you wonderful people on GringoPost and Facebook, we have raised $4700 of this goal since last Friday)

How you can help: We are looking for more $95 sponsors to help our kids return to school. If you can afford more, that would be great too.

Real stories from the Hogar – a child holds on tight

His arm was so tiny. He wrapped it around my arm. Holding on tight. He would draw his face muscles tight, like he wanted to cry but there were no tears. We sat together and watched Peppa Pig. His mother was gone with the police and our team from the foundation to get her things out of her apartment.

The police said it was one of the worst living conditions they witnessed. She had been looking for help for some time until someone told her that we were the place to come to. At only one and half, this little boy carried the pain of watching his mother, him and his two-month-old brother suffer horrific abuse. But now they are safe. None of them have documents, so we will help her get them. Working with the police, we will also file protective orders for her and work with other foundations to get her stabilized and in safe living conditions.

Free Language Exchange by YEES

A fun and relaxing environment to use your Spanish and English. Come and join us at Selina’s terrace (Calle Larga 7-93) every Saturday for a chance to practice with native English and Spanish speakers and meet new friends. This Exchange is basically a casual conversation where we switch languages every 30 minutes. This event is free, however, due to the pandemic, don’t forget to follow these directions:

– If the receptionist ask what do you want, tell him/her that you’re a member of #YEES and there’s a language exchange at the terrace that you’re attending.
– Even though Selina’s terrace is an open space and they have all the biosecurity measures, the pandemic isn’t over yet so don’t forget to keep social distance.
– The conversation will be spontaneous as usual. The only rule is switching languages every 30 minutes. You decide which language goes first.

August 14th, from 2 to 4 PM, Free event, Calle Larga 7-93, Cuenca.

What to do if I do not have any medical insurance in Ecuador?

If you still do not have any insurance in Ecuador do not worry. You can go to the existing health centers in Ecuador. We have hospitals, health centers, and primary health care centers. The only requirement is to go in the company of someone who can help you with translations of your symptoms as you probably will not find many people who can provide help in your language.

The processes are basic and you can access them for free. The central hospital of Cuenca Jose Carrasco Arteaga, provides medical care in all specialties and has the necessary equipment for all types of surgeries. Waiting times for an appointment with a specialist can be long; this being one of the problems of public systems in Ecuador.

Health centers like Pumapungo have general practitioners, gynecologists and pediatric care. The system is faster. You can go directly in the early hours of the morning – 7 AM – and request a medical appointment in the secretariat. If there is availability for the same day they will give you the time for your medical appointment, or you can call 171 option 1 and you can coordinate your appointment and choose a health center near your home. The calls are only with Spanish speakers so you will need a little help.

The public network is wide and you can find it all over the Ecuadorian territory. You must have an identification document such as your passport if you don’t have your id card yet. If you are interested in getting vaccinated you can also go to this center where you can get the main vaccines, such as tetanus, measles, flu, covid and others.
Remember that Ecuador has laws that protect public health in Ecuador as well as free and free education. If you need to access one of the free services in Ecuador and still do not know how to do it, you can contact us. We will help you without any cost. The list of hospitals and health centers is extensive and I have only named two of the best known in Cuenca.

We are Bluebox advisors, the broker that takes care of you and the ones you love.

Scratching posts for cats, made by Jesus

The cat, by nature, is a very curious and playful animal. Scratching is one of his “hobbies” that helps him file his nails and is a way of channeling his anxiety. If your cat scratches the sofa at home for any reason, you do not have to be angry. Perhaps you are not offering him another alternative or you do not know that he needs a toy to channel his energy. That is why you have to know the star toy, the scratching post for cats.

– The scraper helps keep your nails healthy and strong.

– It serves as a refuge for you when you seek tranquility.

– One of the most important benefits it provides to your cat is that it keeps him active and helps him avoid health problems.

– Helps calm your instinct for curiosity.

– Strong, solid and stable, all in wood.

– I can send photos and information to the email

– deliveries to different parts of the basin and other provinces

Recommendation for Mustafa Aladawi, technician/programmer for Alexas, computers, Firesticks…

I would like to highly recommend Mustafa Aladawi from Tech Master for any kind of Firestick installation and programming of the Alexas devices.

My personal experience with him was excellent. He was quickly able to set up our Alexa EchoDots without any problems as well as installing and programming our Firestick 4K to allow us to watch TV shows, movies, and TV Channels from the US. He works very efficiently, professionally, and takes the time to carefully explain how to work your new device or devices.

I have no doubt that he is also very proficient in fixing computer problems as well, (though we have not had a computer problem yet for him to help us with) but he will be the first one we call if we do.

He speaks English perfectly and also Spanish.

Thank you so very much, Mustafa. You are such a kind person and we very much appreciate your help.

We were very pleased with Nestor’s services.

Recommendation for Tutto Matto Pizzería, restaurant

A hot dog is about to go extinct…
Recently, I was in Tutto Matto Pizzeria on Solano circa Luis Moreno Mora, when I found out that the absolutely most delicious hot dog was about to go the way of the dinosaurs.

Tutto Motto Pizzeria, voted GringoPost’s Best Pizza, renowned for its’ pizza and Italian cuisine also has the most delicious hot dog presentation in a city where the salchichas run rampant.

Buried in the appetizer section of the restaurant’s menu, the “Hot Dog Horneado con Mozzarella / Baked Cheese Hot Dog with mozzarella cheese” is often overlooked and now the restaurant management will eliminate this culinary delight due to “low demand”.

Save the Dog! ….don’t forget to add the mostaza…
