$881 and counting, Thank you Cuenca, everybody wins

Rough Knuckle Sconery was able to donate $139 to the Cuenca Soup Kitchen for the month of September 2019, bringing our total contribution to $881 which translates to approximately 819 meals. We only accomplished this during the month of September with the help of our retail partners, Slow Brew Coffee Cafe, Telicioso Tea Shop, the soon to be renamed Vegetable Bar and most importantly you, the Expat community and readers of GringPost.

For the less fortunate members of our community who were served a hot meal during the month of September your choice to spend your money at our retail partner’s establishments has made the difference between being served a hot meal and going hungry. It is our sincere hope that you will continue to patronize these unique and civic minded businesses. It is through them that we are able to continue to contribute 100% of our profit after expenses to the critical humanitarian work of the Cuenca Soup Kitchen.

We often meet volunteers from the Soup Kitchen during our daily outings and when we introduce ourselves they humbly thank us for our donations. We are always dumbfounded and overwhelmed by their generosity of spirit because all of Cuenca should be thanking them for their compassion, their hard work and for their humanity. They are the ones that are doing the heavy lifting.

In an interview we did some time ago we were asked what beyond  our monthly contribution Rough Knuckle Sconery was hoping to achieve.  We quickly said we hoped to feed 1000 people! Realizing we were almost there, we gave it some thought said we really hoped other businesses and Gringo vendors might be inspired to do the same, to donate even a portion of their proceeds to our community and to display that fact at their businesses.  Because if we have a choice, we will always choose to spend our money at businesses that give back.

One scone at a time.
