Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to spend a morning as a Wildlife Caretaker at the Yurak Allpa sanctuary in Tarqui.

You will join the team of raptor experts. you can participate in their flight training and enjoy the impressive experience of holding a bird of prey on your arm. you will learn more about these fascinating predators and why they were rescued by the refuge.

You will be able to enter the tapir enclosures with the sanctuary’s caretakers. you will help them with their daily tasks, such as feeding and brushing the tapirs. They also love massages to help them relax and might even fall asleep if you are a good masseur.

You will enter the parrot enclosure to feed them and pick up their beautiful feathers from the ground, which you can take home as a souvenir.

You will also meet and feed the many monkeys, ocelots, coatis, ostriches, and all the wonderful animals that this place cares for.
The animal caretakers will share their stories with you and explain what they do every day to give the animals a better life.

By participating in this activity, you are providing financial support to this shelter, which has been helping abandoned, abused, or illegally trafficked animals since 2026. Your money will be used to fund food, veterinary care, and improvements to the animals’ enclosures.

PS: The terrain is almost entirely flat, with a few small hills. So it is easy to get around.

$40/person. Includes a meal there at the end of the morning (cheese toast, scrambled eggs, coffee or tea and fruit juice) + Round trip by minivan.
