This is a comment on my experience with Movistar in Cuenca, Ecuador. I purchased a sim card for $5 at the store on Remi Crespo on Monday. I told the sales person there that my cell phone is an unlocked phone and the carrier I use in the States is T Mobile. He said no problem and I bought the sim. There was a problem because the sim did not work. I went to another store on Simon Bolivar and they told me that the sim would not work in my phone but I had to go back to the store that I purchased it from to get a refund. (I am walking all this time and it is more than a few miles.)
The short story at the original store they sent me to the person who deals with special problems. He took the sim card they sold me and placed it in his phone. Of course, it worked. So, he told me the card was fine the problem was with my phone. I had to explain the concept of selling a product the sales person should have known would work makes it the store’s problem. He finally understood and said he had to talk with the manager. 25 minutes later he came back and told me they would give me a store credit. I explained that would do me no good in the USA as they are not there and I don’t think I would leave T Mobile. He said he had to talk with the manager again and was gone another 20 minutes. When he came back he told me I had to go to another Movistar store a few miles away because they didn’t have cash at their store. I told them I gave them cash on Monday and I am pretty sure they have cash now. He said that they couldn’t refund my money at that store. He also refused to give me anything in print to take to the other store saying they would know because he had emailed them.
If you are thinking about getting service from Movistar think about this “service”. I know I will never use them again. They wasted hours of my time and never once thought to apologize.
