Furniture, Design and Personalization expo

The Don Bosco Artistic Center, guided by the Volunteer Association “Operation Mato Grosso”, committed to the social work to young people who finish their studies in the Don Bosco schools, invite the two exhibitions of wooden furniture to be held from 29 October to November 5 at the Colosseum of the Salesian Polytechnic University from 9 AM to 8 PM and inside the former Cathedral of Cuenca near the Calderon Park.

The Don Bosco Artistic Center Foundation was established in 2000 with the help of volunteers from the association “Operation Mato Grosso,” which has been present in Ecuador since 1974. The foundation is comprised of 95 individuals, including cabinetmakers, seamstresses, and assistants. Its aim is to work with young graduates of Don Bosco schools through Christian education and training in areas such as sculpture, carpentry, and textiles. This initiative offers graduates the opportunity to use their talents within their communities, allowing them to stay with their families and avoid migrating to other cities, thereby preserving family bonds.

The furniture work that is produced is handmade, totally in solid wood. They do not use nails, or screws, but an assembly system.

The furniture is unique and unrepeatable because it is prepared by a single artisan, avoiding performing serial work.

For those who create these pieces, they are not merely furniture but works of art that become part of the home, integrating into everyday life and daily activities.

Each sale of the furniture ensures a decent salary for the young artisans who craft the final piece, recognizing the artistic value of their hard work. These pieces often become cherished heirlooms.

In this exhibition, the Foundation aims to introduce citizens to their work, showcasing the craftsmanship and artistry involved in creating the furniture. This effort is intended to garner support for aiding younger generations.
