I really had thought I submitted a recommendation for Monica Gonzaga long ago, but I guess it slipped by. Here it is now:
Our situation was a bit different than most. We were US American ex-pats living in Hungary for the last 19 years. As we were completing our last hurrah round-the-world trip before settling in Cuenca, we found ourselves unable to return home to Budapest for 17 weeks due to pandemic restrictions.
Fortunately, we were living with family in NJ giving us time to collect apostilles. However, I sent dozens of worried emails to Monica during that time, always receiving a reassuring response.
When we finally arrived, Monica found the earliest appointment for our cedula was after our tourist visa and some of our apostilles expired.
Somehow, she and her team managed to get us appointments in time. Then during our appointment, Monica had to prove our long-time residency in Hungary. Fortunately, we thought to bring old US passports and all residency cards from Hungary. We received our cedulas with soltero.
Then Monica and her team had to register our apostilled US marriage certificate. After this was completed, we had to return to the Civil Registry office again to have our cedulas reissued with casado.
Hundreds of hours of needless worry were eased with each interaction with the Gonzaga team. Monica, Marta Tur, and Jonathan Aria are great at what they do.
