IESS funeral services refund

Hi all,

Some days ago, a friend asked me, What if the person who dies is alone? Or lived alone? Or is not married to the person he/she lives with?

In order to claim the funeral service assistance, beside the requirements bellow, the person who will receive the reimbursement has to:

Machine translation from the IESS web page: https://www.iess.gob.ec/es/web/pensionados/auxilio-para-funerales

In the event that the applicant is not a relative of the deceased, he/she must submit a notarized sworn statement attesting that there is no relative of the deceased and detailing the respective funeral home that provided the funeral services.

Last week, I helped a friend whose husband passed away recently, into the IESS process in order to have the funeral services refund from IESS.
If you have your IESS payments for more than one year, and the last 6 months are in a continuous way, you have to deliver the following documents to the IESS building in Loja.

– Copy of the death certificate
– Cedula copy of the dead one
– Original invoice from the funeral service company, plus any other document, like the cremation authorization.
– Cedula copy of who is requesting the refund
– A letter from the bank or credit union, showing that you have an active account, because the money will be transferred into that, in a time of 4 to 6 weeks.
– The top that the IESS refund is a little more than $1,300.

The process has to be done by the widow, widower, sons or daughters.

If the funeral services took place outside the country, the invoices and all the documents have to be apostilled and translated.
