For the past year now, Covid-19 has made all of our lives more challenging. Children have been especially affected. Schools remain closed, and many parents here in Ecuador cannot provide their kids with a mobile device to attend their classes online. This has greatly affected their learning, with so many children, especially those already living in poverty, falling greatly behind in their education.
To help address this issue, the Municipality of Ayangue provided a space for its community to set up a children’s library, of which they took the initiative to fix up and paint themselves. They even built bookshelves, however, the shelves remain nearly empty. Hogar de Esperanza is partnering with Rebecca Chastain-Bigsby, an expat living in the Ayangue community, and students from the University of Cuenca, to help bring some relief and joy to these children.
You, too, can help children continue their learning. Let’s help the Ayangue community fill the shelves in its children’s library! We are aiming to collect or purchase 200 children’s books by May 24, when we will deliver them to the community and its eagerly awaiting children.
If you would like to get involved with this initiative, you can drop off donations of children’s books, written in Spanish, at Hogar de Esperanza from Monday-Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM, located at Mariscal Sucre 12-84 y Juan Montalvo, or you can contribute financially from our donation page: https://hogaresperanza.org/en/donations/ and we will purchase them for you. Thank for your support. For more information: https://hogaresperanza.org/en/proyect-nuevo-inicio/
