Gran Roca has the freshest, highest quality, most delicious foods you can buy. You can see and taste the difference. We offer a large selection of sustainably grown fruits, vegetables and herbs, milk products, eggs, chicken, beef and pork, all grown in enriched soil or raised on pasture on our permaculture farm in the Yunguilla Valley about an hour southwest of Cuenca.
This week we’ll spotlight some of our super-healthy, unique and delicious vegetables we grow sustainably on raised beds on our farm. Some of the beds will be harvested this week. Others may be a few weeks away. Once a bed is fully harvested, it will be refurbished and enriched with compost and then planted with a different rotated variety (which many farms that pretend to be organic don’t do) which protects the health of both the plant and the soil.
Almost all varieties we sell are grown from heirloom seeds that are tastier and healthier than the regular common varieties you see on store shelves. Below is a list of what we are currently selling. Our offerings can change from week to week. We will start with salad and other greens as we believe that:
“A salad a day keeps the doctor away.” (Sound vaguely familiar?)
We sell a variety of Lettuces, Celery, Mustard Greens, Rainbow Chard, Collards, Green and Red Cabbage, Kales, and real Spinach. (Bok Choy and Chinese Cabbage returning soon.)
We sell a variety of onions including red and white Onions, Scallions, Garlic Chives, Onion Chives and Leeks. (yellow onions returning soon)
Other vegetables we currently sell include Sweet Peppers, Broccoli, Wax Beans, Honey-Nut small Squash, Daikon Radish, Zanahoria Blanca, red, yellow and striped Beets.
We also have in the ground and look to be harvesting: Tomatoes, English Cucumbers, Cauliflower, Italian Zucchini, orange, yellow and purple Carrots, Eggplant, yellow Yuca, Potatoes, and Hot Peppers.
All of our vegetables are harvested fresh only a few hours before you receive them. You simply can’t get that kind of freshness at a mercado or supermercado. And freshness is key. Once harvested, vegetables begin to lose their nutrients affecting both their nutrition and taste. This happens slowly at first, then more rapidly. Customers often tell us how fresh and beautiful our vegetables are and that “they have more flavor” and “they just last and last.”
If you aren’t already a customer, we hope you’ll give us a try. You won’t believe the quality and value.
