A few nights ago, a young man stopped by because he wanted me to review the medications the doctor in the public system prescribed him. He also could not buy the medications. He just wanted to talk to someone, someone to give him some confidence, get his medications and be able to sleep somewhere where he could be comfortable while recovering.
As well, this past week we assisted someone who had a major dental infection and suffering from one of the worst cases of psoriasis I had ever seen. But there was no way she could get the medications or dental assistance needed.
For those living on the streets, with no family or support system, when you are sick things can be scary. Not knowing exactly what is wrong with you. At the very least, you need someone to talk to, to give you that comfort level and support. We try our best to be that support system, but it is getting increasingly challenging as the public medical system seems to be collapsing. More and more we are being called upon to provide medications, oxygen, dental assistance and second opinions.
Your monthly support of Hogar de Esperanza (Home of Hope) helps us help others to have to worry a little less about their health. https://hogaresperanza.org/en/donations/
