Help: Amelia and Dora need a new home

Sadly, due to a severe medical issue, Amelia and her daughter Dora are needing a new home as their parents are having to leave Ecuador right away and won’t be able to return.

Everyone involved is very upset about this and we are all trying to find an ideal new home for the adorable and lovable pair of cats. Mom, Amelia, is about 7 years old and her baby, Dora, is about 5 1/2. They are both in great health, fun to play with, and very well behaved.

They have some furniture of theirs to bring with them to their new house so they just need someone to love them.

Little Cooke

Cooke is 12 years old and has lived at the FAAN shelter for 9 years. She was pregnant and all of her babies were adopted. She also had skin problems which have since been resolved.

She is spayed, vaccinated, wormed and has received flea medication. She is only 14 kg. Cooke is docile and gets along with other doggies. She likes children too. Cooke is fine on leash and likes to walk slow.

Cookie had a benign tumor removed from her mammary glands about 2 months ago. This may have occurred because of having several litters.

If you would like to meet this sweet and charming girl, please contact me. She has spent most of her life in a shelter with no home of her own.

Lilo – great family dog!

Lilo was born July 1, 2020 and was adopted from Patan Rescue in the middle of September, so that makes her 2.5 years old. She weighs about 50 pounds.

She came back to us temporarily, just until the adopter could find a new home that accepted her, (that was the initial plan) sometime towards the end of 2021. However, Lilo has been with us ever since.

She is leash trained, potty trained and basic commands she’s already spayed and needs a fenced house with a yard so that she can roam safely. Good with cats, dogs and children! No chickens please; she will hunt them.

For a meet and greet with Lilo, please contact me.

Beautiful Moka Joy

Sleek little beauty, looks like a seal with colors that morph from black to caramel; small, dainty and outdoor trained! She has been here since being rescued with her sister ‘Sable,’ in a carton under a tree in the park 2 months ago. What makes her special? Every dog is special! She might best suit a person who is reasonably active as she is young and has had access to a big backyard here. She is a super playmate with other dogs in the pack and is ‘cool’ with cats. Remarkably beautiful and a gentle soul.

Come and meet her. You may just fall in love with her and, who knows? Maybe you might like one of several others we have here if not her.

Written by rescuer:

The rescuer adopted the puppies’ mother from the coast. When she returned to the US for several months, the adopted doggie became pregnant. The mother dog consequently had 4 puppies. Which makes 9 dogs that must be attended to. One of the dogs is older and only has 3 legs. We are a little bit much for him and are currently seeking a new loving home for the three male puppies.

Puppies have received vaccines and worming treatment; required neuter at 6 months.

We live on a farm and so it would be excellent if we had a place to roam like at home. We are also accustomed to living inside and we are housebroken.

We are 3-months-old and were born on the 20th of November. We each have a sweet disposition and still like to chew on interesting things. We get along well with the cat that lives here and the chickens too.

Please help us find a loving owner.

Help Gizmo find a home

Quirky grey and white kitten needs a home.

This beautiful kitten has popped up on my doorstep a week ago. Unlike the surly strays that I’m currently fostering, this kitten used to belong to a home. It is extremely friendly and loves indoors.

After notifying our neighborhood watch via WhatsApp and no one claiming him we have decided to find him a home off the streets.

He has been to the vet and has received a clean bill of health to include oral antibiotics and flea treatment.

As stated before, I am currently fostering the two aforementioned surly strays and have two cats of my own. So, keeping him is not a possibility at this time.

If you or someone you know would be interested in a feline companion, please message me.

Also, there are tons of video and pictures if you would like to share.

Thank you.

Cuenca – Let’s Do This for the Dogs!

FAAN is at the finish line today for the Kick-Start Matching Grant.
How close are we to doubling our donation for the dogs for their new home and reaching the $40,000 matching grant challenge?

Close! In fact, we’re so close that our Board Members will be ordering FAAN Burgers today at Calvo Restaurant from noon – 2 PM to collect final in-person donations in Cuenca. Come by, enjoy lunch at Calvo, become a “Matchmaker” with your donation and we’ll be thrilled to also talk with you about adopting one of our 140 FAAN dogs and or volunteering your super powers in our many community projects.

So really, how close are we? We need just $2,492 dollars to meet our goal. Breaking that down, FAAN has a Paws Circle of Benefactors: Gold Paws: $1,000 +, Silver Paws $500+ and Bronze Paws $100 +. These donations are the foundation of our capital campaign to build the first US-standard shelter in South America.

Hatchi the Pomsky needs a new home

Hatchi is a large, super friendly, calm and loving Pomsky (Pomearian-Husky mix breed).

His fur is red merle/white and very thick for cold weather.
5 years old
Weight 70-75 pounds
40 inches tall floor to back
Gentle spirited, not a guard dog!

Leash trained. No barking. Fully house broken.

Hatchi loves to run and play

I am in a smaller apartment now. Hatchi needs space that I cannot provide.

Please rehome my Hatchi!

Tell your friends and family. He needs your love.

Young adult Pomsky’s are seldom available for adoption. This is a costly mix and you will not see others for free.

I see his frolicking in the Cajas or on your farm or ranch. Cuenca or cooler temperatures is best for my boy!

Oh, I hate to lose this wonderful dog but I need your help please.

Will you help the dogs of Cuenca pass the finish line?

The clock is ticking. We have until Wednesday 11:55 PM to double all donations for the dogs of FAAN (Fundacion Familia Amor Animal) to help purchase the land for a permanent animal sanctuary.

Yes, it was a sad day when our dogs received their eviction notice and we learned that we need to find and build them a new home and move them by December 31st.
It’s not a doggie sprint, it’s a marathon.

The goal for meeting the $20,000 matching grant is now within our reach and that will mean as a community we raised over $40,000 for our kick-start capital campaign for building the most modern and sustainable shelter in South America.

We’re so close to meeting the match that every donation really matters! Your $10 donations become $20, $100 becomes $200 and $1,000 + becomes $2,000 +
Please join our growing community of “Matchmakers” helping Cuenca become known as the City that Cares.

The dogs of FAAN wish to say thank you for your love and generosity during this campaign

Hello,

Friends just informed me that on their recent visit to Ingapirca, advance reservations were required and they had to wait two hours to be admitted. Also, it’s no longer free. I haven’t been able to find any entrance or reservation info online, so any of that would be most welcome here. Thanks.

FAAN capital campaign donor fund matching opportunity

A generous and anonymous donor is inspiring our community with a kick-start to FAAN’s (Fundacion Familia Amor Animal) capital campaign, saying he’ll double every dollar received through March 15th to build Ecuador’s first and most modern animal shelter.

Consider joining our “PAWS Benefactor Circle” this week with your gift of $100+ (Bronze) 500+ (Silver) + $1,000 + and watch your donation double for the dogs.

Our FAAN-attic volunteers will be happy to meet with you personally in Cuenca for coffee and take your PAWS circle benefactor photo. You can choose an easy donation payment method including cash, PayPal, FAAN’s Pichincha account, or a check or wire to our sister non-profit in the US for a charitable tax deduction.

If you reside, outside of Ecuador, we’d love to receive and share a picture of you and/or your pet supporting the new shelter because our community of animal lovers lives everywhere.

At FAAN, we believe all animals including those of pet owners, community dogs, and street dogs deserve to be respected and cared for by the collective community.

Will you join us and help us meet the match?

Adult Pomsky

Hatchie is a large, super friendly, calm and loving Pomsky (Pomearian-Husky mix breed). He is a fabulous animal and is a wonderful companion for a single dog lover or affectionate playmate for the entire family.

His fur is red merle/white. He is 5-years old and weighs in the range of 50-75 lbs. When standing on his rear legs, arms on my shoulders, his height is about 5”7”.

Hatchie, when outdoors is leashed. He loves to run, jump onto rocks and tree stumps, and walk briskly several times per day. An owner-occupied house in the country or an owner-occupied large apartment in the city with a terrace or green space are both acceptable rehoming alternatives. Adoption by a family in Cuenca with its cooler temperatures is preferred since hot, humid temperatures on the coast are really unsuitable for Pomsky’s who have a thick heavy coat of fur.

Sweet and petite Goldie

Written by rescuer:

Was hoping I could get her a foster family ASAP…it is at the tipping point here. My landlady lives right next door. Goldie is 2. She is spayed. She has been treated for parasites and fleas. She is free from anything in that regard.

She is housebroken and not destructive. She loves other dogs and is good with cats. She responds well to verbal commands. She is a great guard dog. She is not aggressive, but is a barker at strange noises and people. She does not get car sick. She goes nicely on a leash. I prefer halters, but she accepts either.

She is about 12 pounds and is full grown. She knows her name. She likes being near you. She is not a constant licker, but will give a kiss. She loves her toys and really enjoys balls. She likes new toys and plays with everything she owns every day. She likes a toy box…so she can take out things one at a time. She likes chewies and dog cookies.

She really needs a good home with access to the outside. She loves people, both adults and children, but does have a wary attitude until she feels trust. She has a joy about her that is uplifting. I think she would be happier with at least one other dog, if not more. I have kept her for 3 months and she has really blossomed. I cannot keep her, as my Landlady feels that 6 dogs and 2 cats is all she can allow.

Charles Schwab and ATM Fees

I used my Schwab card at the JEP ATM across the street and the screen showed a fee of .50 ctvo. My fault, I never look at the receipt. I used the machine twice more other days. When I looked at my Schwab online, it was not .50 ctvo, but $5 for each withdrawal.

This was the reason I stopped using Banco Pichincha. Their $5 ATM fee was integrated into the withdrawal, so Schwab refused to refund it.

Today, I went to Banco del Austro to withdraw money; it has always been free. The screen now shows there is a $4 fee and asks if you accept it. When prompted, I say no to printing a receipt.

I called Schwab to see if these fees are reimbursable since they do reimburse on a monthly schedule. I was told, only if the bank clearly identifies the fee separate from the withdrawal. The agent was able to see the full amount including the fee, but was not able to tell me if it will be distinguishable for Schwab to separate the two amounts. I won’t know until March when I check my online statement.

Rex is really funny and playful. Very happy and looks really scary. Perfect combination! Scary looking and sweet and loving. He will stop while you’re walking and just wrap himself around your legs. He’s about 1 ½ years old and housebroken. Gets along with other dogs but barked at my neighbor’s cat. He was getting skinnier on the street so we took him in, bathed him and gave him shots and worming. Needs to be fixed and will help with that. Our dogs don’t like other dogs. Matilda is the sweetest dog I have ever fostered. She has excellent house manners and is friendly with all people and other dogs. She rarely barks and stops when you ask her. She is spayed and vaccinated and is very healthy except for some vision limitations.

She loves to take walks and to get belly rubs and never pulls the leash. Her sight is good enough that she is fearless and doesn’t run into things but she stays close when walking and follows commands in English or Spanish.

She deserves a forever home but if you are in Ecuador short-term like me, you can foster her until some lucky family adopts her. I must leave in March and would love to take her with me but it’s not possible.

Please help us rehome Matilda.

Beautiful female puppy looking for a home

I found a little 2-month-old female dog. She was abandoned by a bad person around my house.

Now she is looking for a forever home. Could you share this information with your friends? She is a black dog, very cute and lovely.

She will be dewormed, with a flea medicine and with her first vaccine. She will be a medium-size dog probably.

Text me for sending you pictures and videos of her.

Lilo – great family doggie!

Lilo was born July 1, 2020, and was adopted from Patan Rescue in the middle of September, so that makes her 2.5 years old. She weighs about 50 pounds.

She came back to Patan temporarily, just until the adopter could find a new home that accepted her, (that was the initial plan) sometime towards the end of 2021. However, Lilo has been with us ever since.

She is leash trained, potty trained and understands basic commands. She’s already spayed and needs a fenced house with a yard so that she can roam safely. Good with cats, dogs and children! No chickens please; she will hunt them.

For a meet and greet with Lilo, please contact me.

Puppies need a home

Hello,

Around Thanksgiving we adopted a French Poodle. We had a big surprise at the vet when we found out she was pregnant. About a month later she had 5 pups. None of them look like her; 2 are black and look like schnauzers, 1 is mostly black and brown, the other 2 are white, brown and black. 2 females 3 males. They have been dewormed and got their Parvo shot. They are sweet and playful.

We thought we had lined up their forever homes but life happens and a couple of people backed out. We cannot keep any. We are already frowned upon where we live for the 2 that we have. They would be great for families with kids and older couples.

Please email me if you are interested and want some pictures.

Thank you

Little Rio

Kitten, Rio, is about a 10 week old, grey tabby. She was found next to the Tomebamba in Capulispamba 2 days ago. She is a cuddlebug extraordinaire and enjoys sitting on my shoulders. My 2 older cats are not particularly fond of her though might accept her eventually. However, I don’t think having 3 cats in an apartment is an ideal situation. So would love to find a loving furever home for her. Yesterday she visited the vet and was pronounced healthy. She was bathed and had flea and parasite treatments done. Monday she will get her first vaccination.

I have no doubt that she will make someone a faithful and loving companion.

Will send fotos on request.

Help Paws with Hope

It was a sad day for us yesterday at Paws with Hope Cuenca . We had a dog returned to us who was adopted about 2 years ago. Of course, I will be posting him in the near future, as he deserves a forever home. Right now, we need to stock up on dog food, cat food, and cat litter. We now have 8 dogs residing here, plus the cats.

This past week I posted a few other dogs who are currently here and are looking for their forever homes. If you or someone you know is looking to adopt, please reach out to me. These dogs are in desperate need.

Please share this post.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Darling Sophie – Hypoallergenic!

She is a Shih Tzu and is about four-years-old. She was rescued when the family she lived with moved and left her behind. A neighbor realized what had happened and brought her to a clinic to be checked. Now she is healthy, well-fed, and spayed. She has all her shots.

She is well mannered and never chews on anything she hasn’t been given to chew on. She jumps up on the furniture only after being invited. She loves to be petted and have her shoulders rubbed and her head scratched.

Last week I fell and hurt my knee so it is very difficult for me to take her for walks. I have to walk slowly and Sophie doesn’t understand why I’m going so slow. She pulls me when something needs to be investigated and I am afraid that she will pull me over if I don’t expect it. My balance is not as good as I would like.

Also, I have noticed that after staying in the apartment every day with no one to play with, she gets irritable and growls at some people and some dogs. I don’t know how she chooses who or what she will bark at. I feel sad that I can’t give her more fun and exercise.

She needs a home that can give her love, good health care, exercise, and shoulder rubs and head scratches.

Sophie is sweet and beautiful.

Baby Cocoa

Cocoa was rescued off the streets from a very dangerous situation. Her pregnant mother had been helped by a lady who tried to feed her but because she lives in an apartment, she was not able to keep her. When Cocoa’s mother gave birth to her puppies there was no real owner so they were left to the streets. Cocoa was the smallest dog in the pack and was attacked by the bigger dogs who bullied her and did not let her eat any of the food that was left for them. Her future was very bleak but now she has been to the vet, had her shots, and been dewormed.

She is in a safe, temporary foster home and is looking for a permanent home to call her own. As you can see from her pictures, Cocoa is sweet, loving and ready to be a part of any good home.

Sweet JJ

Rescued and written by: Eden Scott Cross

JJ was literally thrown out of the gate of the home that he probably had grown up in. The old lady lives in a shack of a house and said she didn’t want him. He ran across the street stopping 5 feet from the sidewalk, and just stood there. I chased him back to the other sidewalk where I had been walking, put the yoga strap on for a lead (I’d just bought). He ran to the gate of the only home he knew and his mother dog was lying next to the gate looking at him with her under the 4” space between the solid bottom of the gate and the dirt driveway and she was crying. He was trying to get through the gate and he too was crying!

I was finally able to pull him out and get him to come with me. I tried to get a taxi, but the empty ones just passed us by. Finally, one stopped and told me he would not take a dog. TI walked him back to where I could sit down and figure out what to do next. He continued to cry on and off and trembled often. We went to vet Dr. Gallardo (a prince among vets). JJ was full of fleas and some ticks too.

Bailey is looking for her forever human

It’s so depressing for us and for the dog when they are here longer than they need to be. Why is Bailey still here? She’s an awesome dog. She is a professional fetch player, and understands the command “drop it”. If you give her a tennis ball, she will bring it everywhere with her. She would be great for an active individual who will take her on daily jogs or for a family with children and a fenced in yard. Bailey does great with other dogs but she is not meant for the farm life, as cats and chickens are toys in her eyes. She is 4-years old and is spayed. Cuenca.

To meet Bailey or any other adoptable dog please reach out to me.

We are always in need of dog food, cat food, and cat litter as they never seem to last long.

Moka and Sable

Back story– these two little girls were found in a box under a tree in the park–along the Yanuncay river–shivering–lost—shaking, and have been in foster care here for just a month. They have thrived and are happy and ready for a new home. They play well together and with the rest of the pack and are trained to go outside. They are social and have lots of energy. They are non-aggressive and will likely be medium-sized dogs. If you like young dogs and can spend some time with them, that would be perfect. You are welcome to come and see them.

A stray dog followed me home (farm), I have been taking care of her for 3 months now. She was sterilized, but unfortunately she’s been eating my chickens. If someone wants to give her a chance, he won’t regret it. She has all her vaccines and is a medium small size, very light weight and doesn’t eat much, around 2 years old, follows people around without any problems. As I said, fantastic company dog.

Well behaved, true miniature poodle needs a new home

We are moving to the States soon and this time we are unable to bring our pet, since we don’t meet all the new requirements to travel with pets. His name is King. He is originally from Minneapolis, MN and has been an amazing companion for our family. He does not shed, is potty trained, has a chip and immunizations are up to date. He is really calm and loves to go for walks.

If someone is interested in getting a new friend please WhatsApp me for pictures and more info.

Thank you!

Beautiful husky mix, looking for a loving home

Matilda is a sweet 8-year-old husky mix that needs a new home. Her owners have to return to the US and can’t take her. She is very sweet, spayed, and well-behaved. She has about 70 percent vision loss but it doesn’t stop her.

If you are interested in meeting her or have any questions, please call Paola at 098 672 2197. Paola speaks English.

Looking for homes for 2 dogs

I have 2 dogs that need homes by the end of the month. Delilah is 6-years-old. She is very loyal and protective. We found her as a puppy and took her in. She is a medium to big black dog, lab mix. She is house broken and follows some commands like sit. She does not jump. I can send pictures if needed.

Puppy for adoption

Hello, dear expats! There’s a beautiful little female dog, 8-months-old for adoption. She is little breed. Now is fixed, dewormed and with anti-fleas; is so sweet, playful and quiet and friendly with other dogs. She was abandoned here in my neighborhood by people who moved from here. I have been taking care or her, but can’t stay longer in my home because I have 3 big dogs and rent the house.

I can’t drive her anywhere in Cuenca.
Please give her a second chance.

Adorable Sofy is waiting for you!

This beautiful French poodle, was found wandering in our neighborhood, after a heavy rain, in the last week. She was so scared and wet. We took her and bathed her first with a nice hot shower, she seemed to like it. Then we fed her, and she was so hungry. She’s a very lovely, gentle and adorable, medium-size dog. The vet said, she is probably 1-year-old, has no illness or injury, she’s in good shape, only presented bad nutrition, but she’s eating good.

Please, if anybody, wants to give her an opportunity to meet and greet and offer her a “home sweet home”, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Unfortunately, we can’t afford another rescue dog in our small casita, my family and I have rescued 4 dogs already, can’t afford one more.

Please contact me, to meet Sofy, you will be in love with her.

Doggie found in El Vergel 10/22/2022

We found him walking in front of traffic and then walking down the middle of a busy street in El Vergel, holding up traffic in both directions. Vet (Dr. Diego Arciniegas of Veterinaria Arciniegas in El Vergel) thinks he’s about 14. The vet gave him an ultrasound which confirms his general good health. He walks with a pronounced limp, which the vet confirmed is due to an old injury (broken leg bone that reknit badly). He is missing all his teeth. He received intravenous hydration and is being treated with pain pills, vitamins and glucosamine. He appeared clean when we found him, suggesting he might have a home? He is very sweet-tempered. He needs a warm bed, food and love to live out his days. Anybody…
