Dog for Adoption

Kenso is still waiting for his new family and home. He is 7 months old, 40 pounds, neutered, good with other animals and extremely sweet. Australian Shepard and French Bulldog mix. He loves to be right by your side and has lots of affection to give.

He is a bit of an escape artist so he would require a gated home, but most importantly lots of love and attention. Since he is still a puppy he will also need further training but he’s eager to please and has been learning quickly.

We would keep him if we could but we already have another dog who was rescued from someone who was trying to use him for dog fights and while we’ve never had any problems before he’s started to show signs of aggressive towards Kenso and we’re worried about how things could progress so we’re hoping to find another foster home for him sooner than later because we want to make sure all our animals, him included, are safe.

If anyone can help with even another temporary home, please let us know.

Thank you from Lucas and Friends

Update on Lucas and Friends! Hopefully I can get better pictures up soon! I’m still phone-less but wanted to thank everyone who has donated towards Lucas’s care and the care of the other paw members here. Lucas is sterilized and got his flea meds and de-wormer. He is a happy camper and basically goes back and forth between our home and his old owner’s home. He is here most of the time but goes back for a day or so out of the week. We are fine with this as it is what makes Lucas happy.

Lucas and all 7 other dogs were groomed as well! They all look amazing and smelled great for a couple of days, lol. We are still working on getting flea meds and de-wormers for the 5 remaining dogs and the 3 cats. Any help is very much appreciated.

Dog for adoption

French Bulldog/German Shepard mix looking for a new home. He was abandoned by his owners a month ago and has been wandering the city ever since. We saw several Facebook posts following his journey around Cuenca and each of them was full of comments from people who said he had the sweetest and mildest disposition but they simply didn’t have the space to keep him. We found him Saturday night and brought him home but already have two rescued animals so we won’t be able to keep him long term.

According to a neighbor of his original owners, his name is Kenso. He is around 6-months old, weighs no more than 35 pounds, and is house trained. He is just as mild and sweet as everyone said he was, has a happy disposition and likes to be wherever you are. Good with other dogs but would need to be trained to be around cats.

If anyone would like to adopt him you can send a message to Daphne Petty +1 813 748 0014

Adi needs a permanent home

Adi is an 8-month-old German shepherd. She may be a mix, but looks like a shepherd. She was rescued by some nice people who nursed her to good health, but they could not keep her because they had a lot of rescues. I adopted her thinking that I could help, but having 2 dogs is a big challenge for me health wise and financially. Also, I think she needs more space.

She has had all her shots and has been spayed. She is very gentle and loves people and other dogs, but would also be a great guard dog. If interested or have any questions, please WhatsApp me at 09 088 7243 or email at bicoastalartcuenca@gmail.com.

Golden retriever found

I found a golden retriever standing alone in the Tomebamba today – up to his neck in rain swollen water. I don’t know why he was there. I got him out and he followed me to my veterinarian where he is now. They will hold him for a few days and look for a home. I gave them money for food and treatment. He’s an old fellow and emaciated, but very sweet. If you’re in need of a companion, he’s available. I’d take him but I’m in an apartment with two cats already. He’s at Recuvet Clinica Veterinaria on Ordonez Lasso y Calle del Sarar. Cellular: 096 147 7671. Email: info@recuvet.com. Sorry I didn’t have my phone with me for a photo. He’s a cutie.

Max – gorgeous golden retriever mix

Max is a beautiful, 7-month-old Golden Retriever mix. He was rescued after being trapped in an abandoned house. He’s a big doggie and he’ll need ample space and a fenced yard.

Max is neutered, groomed, wormed and received flea meds! His vaccinations are scheduled for next week. He is very polite, docile, calm and affectionate. We don’t know how well he would coexist with cats. It’s likely he will need to be house and leash trained but he appears very obedient and willing to please.

As you can see, good nutrition and medication have cured his skin condition and he is feeling much better. Pepito has been neutered and had his shots. Two-month-old kittens for adoption

Safe home is needed urgently for two kittens from the same litter. House trained and wonderfully playful, these two are the last of a litter of six, sadly only three made it but they are healthy and happy. Now two months (check) old and full of life, they are ready to meet their new owners!

One ginger girl who lives for attention, always on somebody’s lap or curling round their feet. One tabby girl who is super playful and loves toys, both from a house with a dog so are well socialized. Ideally, they would be homed together as they are very close, to a nice home where they could feel safe and happy.

Missing parrot in Cuenca

His name is Tuki Shalom the parrot, he came to us in May, 2020. When we saw him, he was losing some feathers and was greatly injured on his head, so we took him under our wing and raised him, we built a huge cage and never cut his feathers. He was used to going with us to the garden with no cage. He was most of the time free.

Today he was on the balcony with us and seemed like something spooked him so he started flying above the house in circles so we started calling him and he didn´t turn around. We suppose he landed nearby. We put up flyers and said to our neighbors to contact us if they see him. We hope he will come back soon just like he came to us. If anyone reading finds any information about him, please let us know!

We miss him greatly and we are hoping to see him soon, God bless!

Or you can make a trip out to the country for a lovely day trip. We are about an hour outside of Cuenca up in the mountains above Chuallabamba. Chichi, the pug

In June of 2020, I sponsored a fund raising effort for Chichi, a local pug rescued from the street who needed surgery. The owner at the time, and now, has returned to the US and asked for assistance in re-homing her. I know, don’t even say it…

She is currently in Guayaquil. However, I can get her back to Cuenca this weekend if there is interest in an adoption. I am unable to take her as I currently have 6-dogs, one of whom is going through cancer treatment.

There is zero cost for this adoption as I will get her back from the coast. Are you or do you know of anyone interested in rescuing her, once again? I really want her to finally find her “forever” home…

Animal lovers in Cuenca

Hello All,

This is a reach out to all animal lovers in Cuenca with advice on how you ever managed to take the cruel animal treatment of domestic pets in Cuenca. I have been here for four months. At times, I look away since I cannot endure how pets are released into the streets with no care as their owner/friend/trusted one takes off for work. Most of the pets are not euthanized. Most are unfriendly to strangers and most dog owners know that if you treat a dog with kindness/love, it is friendly.

I am sure that every expat has noticed this. How have you made this aspect of life/living in Ecuador acceptable? One HBO show I watch showed that at Cotacacchi, many dogs are dropped at the site to fend for themselves. I can’t take this.

Pets=people=kids=humanity. I know animal cruelty happens in the US–but we have come a long way since I was a kid. What can we do in Ecuador?

Husky was found

Hello, On April 15, 2022 I found a male husky near the Supermaxi El Vergel located at Alfonso Cordero. He has on a military style dog collar with no tags. He’s missing his bottom front tooth.

Dog food, cat food, and cat litter needed

Paws with Hope Cuenca began 5 years ago. In the past 5 years we have rescued over 60 stray dogs and a good number of cats. Currently our home is home to 8 dogs and 3 cats. Our mission has been to get these rescued animals the vet care they need and sterilize them. We house them and feed them until a forever human shows up for them. As of right now we are not in the position to take in any more rescues. We have a good number of animals who are in need of finding their forever humans. It would be unfair to our animals, the animals we would take in, and to us if we were to take in more at this time. We would really love to help every single animal that is in need here in Cuenca and the surrounding areas but unfortunately we do not have the means or space to do so.

Osa, our cuddly bear-dog, is looking for her forever human. Osa is a sweet girl, about 2-years old. She is sterilized and walks great on leash. Osa would make a great apartment dog as long as she gets her walks. She loves to cuddle! Osa is not a girl who is made for the farm life.

If you would like to open your heart and home to Osa or another one of our rescues who are looking for a forever human, please reach out to me.
Thank to those who have donated to feed and vet all of animals. Thanks to you, the remaining 8 dogs and 3 cats are all sterilized. We are always in need of dog food, cat food, and cat litter, as it only last so long! Thank you from all the paws.

Pickles is looking for love

Won’t you open your heart to be home for our precious boy, Pickles? Pickles is a male, sterilized, feline leukemia positive cat. Pickles is fine living here, as all 3 of our cats are feline leukemia positive, but our other male cat, Jake, is making life here at the rescue hard for Pickles. Pickles is a sweet boy, and deserves a life that is better. If you enjoy watching TV and sitting at home, Pickles won’t care at all, as he is a pro at cuddling. You will never have a lonely day again with Pickles in your life.

If you would like to open your heart and home to Pickles or another one of our rescues who are looking for a forever human, please reach out to me.

Marty – urgent temporary foster needed

A compassionate expat couple rescued an apparently abandoned young male cat from Linear Park. He had been hiding in the drain pipe for a couple of days. His name is Marty and he is a charming kitty about a year old. He is currently at Dr. Gallardo’s getting neutered, wormed and flea meds.

We urgently need to find a temporary foster home while the rescuers return to the states for 4 weeks. The rescuers leave on Sunday and intend to foster Marty upon their return to Cuenca.

Compensation and food provision is negotiable.

Please contact me if you’re able to help a cat in need.

Bailey is still waiting…

Why has this amazing dog not been adopted yet?

Looking for a fetch partner? Bailey is your girl! She loves to play fetch. She has become a pro at retrieving the ball and dropping it at the thrower’s feet. Bailey was found as a sick puppy on a dirt road. She was given a 50% chance of survival by our vet. Bailey survived, and now as an adult, she is the most active dog residing at Paws with Hope. Bailey gets along well with other dogs. If you have a tennis ball in your hand, you will have the key to Bailey’s heart. Bailey is sterilized.

If you would like to open your heart and home to Bailey or another one of our rescues who are looking for a forever human, please reach out to me.

Alaska

Her name is Alaska. She is a beautiful, 5-month old, Husky mix. Two months ago we received a complaint; an alcoholic man in Paute killed the Husky (her father) and a puppy (her brother) with a shovel, and the same fate awaited others, including Alaska. They were received at the FAAN shelter with her mother. All 5 doggies were very thin and malnourished.

Alaska is docile and active. She has been vaccinated and wormed and will need to be sterilized in a couple of months. She has been observed to be good with children.

All the other puppies have been adopted and now it’s Alaska’s turn to find a forever family. Isn’t she stunning?

A 3-year old girl needs your help

Danna is a beloved 3-year-old girl who suffers from a rare syndrome that prevents her from walking, talking or expressing herself like a girl her age. Danna’s family’s resources have been limited as she needs medicine every day and constant check-ups where the doctor charges $40 per appointment. She takes a special supplement to build her muscles, but apart from this the doctor has said that Danna needs physical and speech therapy. Right now we are forced to take her to therapy 3 times a week but the cost of each session is $40. I ask for your help through this medium. If you want to personally know about Danna’s case. You can contact us directly to our email or WhatsApp through messages.

They left Nina behind when they went to the US

Her name is Nina and she is a Shih Tzu mix! She is a small-breed doggie who is so docile, cheerful and manageable as well.

Nina is about 3-years old and will be sterilized soon. She is vaccinated, wormed, groomed and has received flea meds. She will need a booster shot and rabies vaccine in about 1 week.

Beautiful tabby cat needs a loving home

This is my porch rescue cat, Handsome Jack. He came one night because I had left out food for my cats when they would go out. I wasn’t supposed to feed him, my landlord is not crazy about homeless cats in his yard, but he looked like a starved, wet little rat with a huge head and I couldn’t help myself. I’m still not used to starving animals.

It’s a hard life for cats around here. There are lots of dogs looking for food and so a cat doesn’t have much chance. It took about 4 months before he would let me so much as touch him. He’s scared to death of people; I assume they kick at him and yell at him.

Dog dish found

Hello,

Last Friday, I found a dog dish at the park in Puertas del Sol right across Melatte; it is not the kind of dog dish you can buy here in Ecuador, so I will be more than happy to return it to its owner. All you have to do is describe it to me (i.e. color, any special characteristics).

I will return it with a new metal key clip as the one it had attached was broken, which is probably why the person lost it.

Call me if this resonates with you,

Little dog probably stolen

Today, Thursday, I saw a young guy on the bridge near Common Ground restaurant.
He was very filthy, clothes and himself, walking around the cars that were stopped at the lift.

He was showing a little dog, Caniche or Puddle, light brown hair and with a pink collar and leash. My taxi was not near him, but I think that he was trying to sell it.

Maybe the guy will be there tomorrow…I would have ” bought” it and looked for the owner but pets are not allowed at my building.

Sweet little Gaby

Gaby is a sweet and docile, 3 year-old female. She is very good with children and other doggies. She has been spayed, vaccinated and dewormed and is ready to become part of a forever family. She is very manageable at only 9 kg.

Gaby’s sidekick, Jimmy, was adopted last week and now it’s Gaby’s turn.

Jimmy & Gaby’s rescue circumstances are shocking. Several months ago, some hikers discovered them in the woods after trekking about 30 minutes from the road. Jimmy and Gaby were tied up, couldn’t escape, and were in deplorable condition and extremely malnourished. The hikers made videos and contacted FAAN immediately so the doggies could be rescued and nursed back to health. Even after all this trauma and rehab, Gaby is a very cheerful, tender and loving soul.

Look at her little face! Would you like to give dear Gaby the happy ending she deserves?

Adopt a pet

My husband and I recently moved to Ecuador and love it here but, as you may know, there are a lot of homeless dogs wandering the streets. We recently adopted a dog from FAAN, a local rescue group. Brisa has quickly become a member of our family and gives us so much love.

Please consider adopting a dog from one of the many rescue groups in Cuenca. Especially we older gringos may consider giving an older dog a loving home. They are usually calmer and easier to housebreak than a puppy but will give you so much joy.

The Hogar welcomes Sassi

Sassi is coming to Cuenca, There are very few animal therapy programs in Ecuador. We run a horse therapy program and one of our partners, Foundation Diviño Niño in Naranjal, runs one for children with MS and other disabilities using horses and Sassi. Animal therapy programs can do wonders for children with disabilities and this Thursday and Friday, Sassi will be coming to meet our children.

We are lucky in that our program is funded by the National Police but FDN Ecuador does not receive any outside support. We encourage you to drop in and meet Sassi and her trainer (a retired army sergeant) and support the work of animal therapies here in Ecuador. If you would like to make a donation to the incredible programs of FDN Ecuador and support their animal therapies, you can do so at our website. Please indicate that the donation is for FDN. https://hogaresperanza.org/en/donations/ Thank you for your support.
