Grand opening Cresly Pizzeria #3 on Remigio

The owner, Jimmy, is the third child of my adopted family to open a pizza restaurant. The Cresly pizza is special because the base is Foccacia. And the pizzas are delicious. The regular hours are Noon – 10 PM every day . Home delivery every day. Call 07 281 8326

Mujeres Con Exito, back to school fundraising needs

We are almost a third of the way to our goal? Can you help us?

It is time for our mothers to start worrying about sending their kids back to school.

Our dilemma: 22 shelter children living at Casa Mara Amor + 78 shelter children living outside the shelter x $95 = $9,500. This is the amount needed to provide our children with shoes, uniforms, underwear, backpacks and supplies. (Please note: thanks to our mailing list generosity and you wonderful people on GringoPost, we have raised $3000 of this goal since last Friday)

Opening on Friday, August 13, from 4 to 7 PM

Grand Opening of Cresly Pizzeria on Remigio

Come to witness and participate in a true Ecuadorean Grand Opening. Pilsner is the sponsor. There will be DJ music, of course. On Remigio Crespo near Miguel Diaz, next to a Tutto Freddo and across the street from La Taverna liquor store.

This Cresly Pizzeria is special to me as the youngest son of my dear adopted family is opening his own restaurant to add to the one his sister owns, and the one his older brother owns.

And what a celebration of family support: all the cousins, aunts and uncles, parents, and grandparents worked tirelessly to create Jimmy’s dream for this modern pizzeria.

The pizzas are fabulous, in my humble opinion, because they are made with a Foccacia base. In addition to pizzas, they serve three kinds of alitas (wings), and Salchi-Papa.
The regular hours are noon – 10 PM, 7 days a week. This event will take place Friday around 4 PM.

Friday, August 13, 2021, from 4 until 10 PM, 0.00, Remigio Crespo, Cuenca.

Meditation and patience with Shambhala, Sunday

Patience is the mark of true love. If you really love someone, you will be patient with them. ~Pema ChödrönDear Cuenca Community,

Shambhala Cuenca would like to invite you to meditate together from your home this Sunday at 10.30 AM. There are many forms and methods of meditation – the form you choose doesn’t matter, however it’s a very good thing to remember our shared humanity as we sit quietly and become mindful for a period of time.

Online meditation sessions are available at https://virtual-cushion.shambhalaonline.org
and
https://shambhalaonline.org/sunday-gatherings/

To practice online regularly with a group, you can also visit https://boston.shambhala.org/getting-started/

Contact cuenca.shambhala@gmail.com, and visit us online at cuenca.shambhala.ws and Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/229033203881661

If you would like to use it, the form we use at Shambhala Cuenca is outlined below, and you can search “Donna Williams Meditation” for instructions on YouTube, or contact us for instructions.

***
Cuenca Shambhala Meditation Practice:

Note that times and practices noted are commonly used, but shorter or longer times are beneficial too. Do what feels right to you.

– Opening prayer or recitation.
– Seated meditation, 20 minutes.
– Walking meditation, 15 minutes.
– Seated meditation, 20 minutes.
– Closing prayer or recitation.

Start with an attitude of friendliness and loving kindness toward yourself. Then, if you’re able, take an upright posture, on a cushion on the floor or in a chair, with the spinal column vertical. Notice your body sensations and be aware of any feelings that arise (such as anxiety, tiredness, anger, passion, boredom, indifference, etc.). Begin to completely identify with your natural breathing, in and out, maintaining some awareness of your body/posture. When thoughts or emotions arise, taking you away from the present moment, you simply notice them, without any judgement. Simply label the thought/emotion as “thinking” and return to awareness of your body breathing. Sitting meditation is a practice of simply being, touching into your awareness of that being, and letting go without trying to attain anything.

For walking meditation, take the same approach, except place attention on your feet as they touch the earth, and your legs moving through space. Join the hands at waist level and walk at a speed only slightly slower than normal (see photo).

Traditionally it’s believed that merit is accrued by meditating. In Shambhala, we dedicate this merit to the benefit of all beings, using the closing text below. Feel free to use it, or any other of your choosing:

Opening:
“May basic goodness dawn;
May the confidence of goodness be eternal;
May that goodness be all-victorious;
May that goodness bring profound, brilliant glory.”

Closing:
“By this merit may all attain omniscience.
May it defeat the enemy, wrong-doing.
From the stormy waves of birth, old age, sickness, and death,
From the ocean of samsara, may I free all beings.”

Free Language Exchange by YEES

A fun and relaxing environment to use your Spanish and English. Come and join us at Selina’s terrace (Calle Larga 7-93) every Saturday for a chance to practice with native English and Spanish speakers and meet new friends. This Exchange is basically a casual conversation where we switch languages every 30 minutes. This event is free, however, due to the pandemic, don’t forget to follow these directions:

– If the receptionist ask what you want, tell him/her that you’re a member of #YEES and there’s a language exchange at the terrace that you’re attending.
– Even though Selina’s terrace is an open space and they have all the biosecurity measures, the pandemic isn’t over yet so don’t forget to keep social distance.
– The conversation will be spontaneous as usual. The only rule is switching languages every 30 minutes. You decide which language goes first.

– If the receptionist ask what do you want, tell him/her that you’re a member of #YEES and there’s a language exchange at the terrace that you’re attending.
– Even though Selina’s terrace is an open space and they have all the biosecurity measures, the pandemic isn’t over yet so don’t forget to keep social distance.
– The conversation will be spontaneous as usual. The only rule is switching languages every 30 minutes. You decide which language goes first.

July 31st, from 2 to 4 PM, Free event, Calle Larga 7-93, Cuenca.

La Guarida is happy to present on the big-screen:

presented in English with Spanish subtitles

Wednesday, July 28th at 6:30 PM
Doors open at 5:30 PM

Limited capacity

About: “Revolutionary Road” is about an unhappy couple in the Connecticut suburbs whose marriage implodes. Frank and April have always seen themselves as special, different, ready and willing to live their lives based on higher ideals. So, as soon as they move into their new house on Revolutionary Road, they proudly declare their independence from the suburban inertia that surrounds them and determine never to be trapped by the social confines of their era. Yet for all their charm, beauty and irreverence, the Wheelers find themselves becoming exactly what they didn’t expect: a good man with a meaningless job whose nerve has gone missing; a less-than-happy homemaker starving for fulfillment and passion; an American family with lost dreams, like any other. Driven to change their fates, April hatches an audacious plan to start all over again, to leave the comforts of Connecticut behind for the great unknown of Paris. But when the plan is put in motion, each spouse is pushed to extremes – one to escape whatever the cost, the other to save all that they have, no matter the compromises.

Forming Cuenca Gourmet Food and Wine Club

Greetings fellow food and wine enthusiasts:

First an Introduction: We previously started and ran the Gourmet Food and Wine Club in Costa Rica. The concept was streamlined from a Chicago Gourmet Society with lots of rules to the following basic premises:

1) Once a year, you agree with a partner of your choice to host The Monthly Gourmet Food and Wine Club. This may be hosted at your home or a restaurant of your choosing. Events are held the last Saturday of the month starting at 6 PM.
2) Members select and create a culinary theme with wines for their assigned month. Creativity in keeping with the theme is encouraged! (Caribbean, Black and White, Evening in Paris, New York Stork Club, Latin Fusion, etc. Let your culinary imagination run wild).
3) Members are encouraged to embrace the theme each month with spirit and attire.
4) While you fully host with your partner a Gourmet Club, one month a year, you enjoy 10 other fabulous evenings of food, wine and conversation. (Once a year a social is hosted, with individual member bringing their unique culinary creations and favorite wine). There is a maximum of 11 partners.
5) Note: In this era of COVID, so that everyone may enjoy mask free dining, proof of vaccination will be required for membership.
6) This is an ideal club for those who enjoy elegant gourmet food and wine and lively conversation as we emerge from the pandemic.
7) The first meeting to plan the calendar year will be the last Saturday night in August, 28th at 6 PM. We will advise of the restaurant location. This kick-off membership event will be organized for separate checks. Let’s get to know each other.

For more information and/or to confirm your attendance at the kick-off, contact Rosemary or Barry Rein. reinrosemary@gmail.com/ 1bbrbarry@gmail.com

Despite the danger, Manuel refuses to abandon his treasure… He convinces Julián and Poca Luz, his two friends, to rescue it with him. Amid the adventures and kids’ games, the signs of armed conflict start to appear in the lives of the inhabitants of La Pradera. Free language exchange

– If the receptionist asks what you want, tell him/her that you’re a member of #YEES and there’s a language exchange at the terrace that you’re attending.
– Even though Selina’s terrace is an open space and they have all the biosecurity measures, the pandemic isn’t over yet so don’t forget to keep social distance.
– The conversation will be spontaneous as usual. The only rule is switching languages every 30 minutes. You decide which language goes first.

July 24th, from 2 to 4 PM, Free event, Calle Larga 7-93, Cuenca.
