This week at La Guarida

Time surely flies when one is having fun. Come enjoy the last week of April at La Guarida. Don’t forget to join us for Brunch: Tuesday to Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM. Organic produce and eggs are key for making a great breakfast, a fresh brewed batch of coffee every time can’t hurt.

April 26th (Tuesday, 6:45 PM). – The Piano –
With its breathtaking visual style and careful attention to sound and movement, the movie provokes contemplation about the ways people communicate – through words, through music, through sex, and, most significantly, through touch. With outstanding performances by the whole cast; a Jane Campion classic.

April 27th (Wednesday, 6:45 PM). – Cyrano –
Not only do the director Joe Wright and the incredible Peter Dinklage fashion an unrequited anguish worth crying over, again and again. Cyrano is one of the best movie musicals of the last decade.

April 28th (Thursday, 7:30 PM): – Esteban Encalada Jazz Quartet –
Jazz comes back to La Guarida and we cannot be happier to host Esteban Encalada and his Jazz Quartet again. Certainly, La Guarida has become a cathedral for many musicians due to its wonderful acoustics and intimate interaction between audience and artists. This concert is perfect for a great dinner and a great bottle of wine; we have them both. Admission: $5. The full amount of this fee goes directly to the musicians.

April 30th (Saturday beginning at 5 PM): – 5 course tasting menu –
What can $15 get you? In La Guarida, it will get you an incredible 5 course tasting menu highlighting Ecuadorian Street Food. We are getting ready to take to a gastronomic tour like you haven’t experienced before. The streets of Ecuador will come alive in our dishes, its colors, textures and most importantly flavors. Don’t miss this humble menu perfect for Saturday Night. Pairing Menu: $6. Book now.

Remember that for our music and film evenings reservations with dinner are required.
Call now 099 806 8071.

We are located at Mariscal Lamar and Luis Pauta. A few meters from La Cuadra station on the Tranvia Path.

Free Language Exchange by YEES

A fun and relaxing environment to use your Spanish and English. Come and join us at Selina’s terrace (Calle Larga 7-93) every Saturday for a chance to practice with native English and Spanish speakers and meet new friends. This Exchange is basically a casual conversation where we switch languages every 30 minutes. These event is free, however, due to the pandemic, don’t forget to follow these directions:

– If the receptionist ask what do you want, tell him/her that you’re a member of #YEES and there’s a language exchange at the terrace that you’re attending.
– Even though Selina’s terrace is an open space and they have all the biosecurity measures, the pandemic isn’t over yet so don’t forget to keep social distance.
– The conversation will be spontaneous as usual. The only rule is switching languages every 30 minutes. You decide which language goes first.

April 16th, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Free event, Calle Larga 7-93, Cuenca.

Give Yourself a Break – Meditate with Shambhala from Home

If your compassion doesn’t include yourself, it’s incomplete – anon.

Dear Cuenca Community,

Shambhala Cuenca would like to invite you to meditate together from your home this Sunday at 10.30 am. And a daily practice is great. There are many forms and methods of meditation – the form you choose doesn’t matter, however it’s a very good thing to remember our shared humanity as we sit quietly and become mindful for a period of time.

Online meditation sessions are available at
