Saturday Morning Language Exchange is back!

We are very happy to announce you that our Saturday Language Exchange is back with new activities and conversation games!

We kindly invite you to join our language exchange group Spanish-English/English-Spanish. The sessions are aimed at people willing to improve their conversational skills putting them into practice in a realistic environment and with native speakers.

The sessions are guided by a bilingual facilitator (a teacher with extensive experience in the field) who proposes the activities and conversation topics.

It involves several people whose native language is English and several people whose native language is Spanish. We get together so that the former can practice Spanish and the later can practice English.

Apart from the language learning, the sessions bring an excellent opportunity to meet and interrelate with local people while engaging into the city cultural activities.

Therefore, this language exchange complements formal language learning. It mainly serves for putting oral language skills into practice. Additionally, it constitutes a good opportunity to experience and gain an insight into aspects of Ecuadorian culture and Cuenca local life.

Yes, the best hamburger is Calvo & Co. You already know that. There are many hamburgers, there are many restaurants that prepare delicious hamburgers, but none is like Calvo & Co. and we all know that. We have made many new dishes but the hamburger remains the heart of our company. As always and always, Calvo & Co. dishes are distinguished by how we make them. With lots of love.

There’s still room – Presence Workshop

There’s still room for this one-day workshop where you will learn tools and techniques to explore your inner self and move into the new year with a fresh perspective and the ability to connect to your true potential!

Embodied presence is the experience of being fully here with a quiet mind, a receptive non-reactive heart, and grounded in our physical sensation, which is the foundation from which we access all the intelligence and wisdom available to us. While our habitual ways of thinking, being, and doing are comfortable and can serve us well, they can also limit us, and we’re usually the last ones to see it. Increased presence allows you to become more attuned to inner and outer reality, to make new and creative choices rather than habitual ones, and to be more empowered and effective in whatever you’re doing. With Presence, we can bring more to the world, to our work, and to our relationships.

In this workshop, you will:

– Be introduced to the three centers of intelligence we all have and why 3-centered awareness is the key to living consciously rather than on autopilot as we do much of the time
– Learn and practice a seven-minute Presence practice that you can easily incorporate into your daily life
– Spend time in nature where we will actively apply and experience the power of presence

Art to feed the soul and the hungry

We are excited to announce that our next art exhibition at idiomART is a fundraiser to help raise money for the Cuenca Soup Kitchen!

We will have artwork by Burt Johnson, Evelyn Johnson, Juan Garcia, Peter Dudar, Alberto Soriano, Maité Eusebio, Margot Manosalvas, Susan Armstrong, Cristian Leon and Pedro Pablo Tocabens. We will also have an incredible musical presentation by local opera singer, Christian Castro!

The Cuenca Soup Kitchen has been committed to providing food to those most in need for over five years.

CSK provides food for approximately 1,000 hungry people. Each family in our program is screened and followed by a social worker. As they reach stability they are transitioned out of the program, making room for others in need.

In addition to food CSK provides:

– Eco-friendly hygiene products for women and babies
– Donated clothing and household items
– Hats and other warm and soft clothing for babies, the elderly, cancer patients
– Birthday recognition for every child in our program

In addition to our partnerships that serve families within the city of Cuenca, the Cuenca Soup Kitchen reacts to urgent needs. Sometimes this need is created by natural disasters such as flooding and landslides. In these cases the CSK provides food and hygiene products as communities work towards stabilization.

The exhibition is until Feb. 2

The opening is Thursday, Jan. 19 from 6 – 8 PM at idiomART. Free entrance,

What Clemencia says at C&C Unisex Hair Design & Barber Shop

These days, self-care is more important than ever. With everything going on the world, it’s crucial that we take time out to focus on our well-being, on our bodies, our hair, nails, etc. Experts have written volumes on the value of a self-care routine. Making sure you take time to take care of yourself has been proven to improve energy, focus, productivity, and happiness, and to reduce stress and anxiety. It can even help with depression.

While a massage, a mani/pedi, or a facial might seem self-indulgent, think about it this way: You take your car in for regular oil changes, but you’re not “indulging” your car by taking care of it! You’re making sure it runs its best so it’s reliable and can be there for you when you need it. And don’t forget to pamper yourself. A brow wax, a massage, new nails, a facial, a cute haircut, a nice color tone that matches with your personality. Remember the joy of seeing your hair swing in a fresh, luscious way, the joy of a fun new manicure, or the joy of that dang crick in your neck feeling better for a while. or that post-massage glow. Simply feeling good inside will make you prettier than any makeup ever could. All these little benefits of being human are available to you at C&C a family hair salon and barber shop, where you can choose a beauty professionals. Make an appointment and start feeling better about…
