Saturday morning language exchange

Dear Community,

We kindly invite you to join our language exchange group Spanish-English/English-Spanish.

The sessions are aimed at people willing to improve their conversational skills putting them into practice in a realistic environment and with native speakers. They are guided by a bilingual facilitator (a teacher with extensive experience in the field) who proposes the activities and conversation topics.

It involves several people whose native language is English and several people whose native language is Spanish. We get together so that the former can practice Spanish and the later can practice English.

Apart from the language learning, the sessions bring an excellent opportunity to meet and interrelate with local people while engaging in the city’s cultural activities.

Therefore, this language exchange complements formal language learning. It mainly serves for putting oral language skills into practice. Additionally, it constitutes a good opportunity to experience and gain an insight into aspects of Ecuadorian culture and Cuenca local life.

November 27th, from 11 AM to 12:30 PM, Voluntary contribution from $2, Otorongo Lounge, Plaza del Otorongo y Avenida 3 de Noviembre, Cuenca.

Thanksgiving Dinner Concert at the Jazz Society Cafe

Mother and Son Family Kitchen’s 4th annual Thanksgiving celebration at the Jazz Society Café.

This year, we all hoped to be back to normal. We survived the biggest challenge that the whole of humanity faced, and is still facing bravely. It will take us some time to adopt the new normal. This current situation has brought us closer to each other: taking care of each other, family, friends, and even looking after our community while we were isolated. This gives us more and more reason to be thankful in every minute of our lives.

We are thankful for the opportunity to provide nourishment to all our valued customers both walk-in and delivery. We want to bring not just nourishment but a joy to every bite of the food we prepare specially for you.

We are thankful to have the chance to host artistic musical events that nourish our souls. This November 25th, join us on our 4th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner as we continue preparing not just daily meals but delicious holiday dinners at the Jazz Society Cafe or at home.

Camping and cabins in paradise

We are launching our camping option as a way to enjoy The Oasis Eco Resort. Located just 20 minutes from Cuenca, our property has been described by one very well-traveled guest as “by far the most beautiful piece of land I have ever seen.” Tent cabin can happen in a wide variety of locations, a mountain-top perch with stunning 360 degree vistas, or creek side with now a roaring mountain stream with many cascadas. Reviews:

“Jim Gala is an incredibly talented jazz musician. Instead of playing a lot of abstract notes, he goes deep into the songs you know and love and makes you feel like you’re hearing them for the first time. This is world-class jazz! The music, the food and drinks are just phenomenal!”
—Nigel Buchanan, October 2021

“Jim Gala is one of my musical idols. He’s a real soul man. No one plays like him. His musical philosophy, sensibility, and taste are impeccable. He changed my life with his music. I actually quote him often and wrote about him in my book.”

San Joaquin Horseback rides – new venture coming up this weekend

This weekend, Nov 20 and Nov 21, sees a big change to our usual rides, and you’re invited to be part of it.

To begin the day, meet up with horse trainer, Christian and your host, Jane at around 9:30 AM. This is a private rural property where all amenities are provided.
(Ordonez Lasso y San Miguel de Putushi.)

Your horse will be saddled up and ready to take you on a 2-3 hour ride through the San Joaquin everglades where mountain views are a ” must see.”

Just let us know your level of riding so we can delegate a suitable horse for you. Like us, they all have their own personalities…

Saturday is reserved for a casual ride of approximately two and a half hours and suitable for all riders.
Sunday will be a a three-hour ride for those with more riding experience where you can set your own pace…

Buffet lunch will be around 12:30 PM, so just relax and enjoy the countryside fresh air. Enjoy your stay for as long as you like. (Beer and wine are available.)

On booking your ride we will send you more information and tips.

Happy riding…!

Free language exchange by YEES

A fun and relaxing environment to use your Spanish and English. Come and join us at Selina’s terrace (Calle Larga 7-93) every Saturday for a chance to practice with native English and Spanish speakers and meet new friends. This Exchange is basically a casual conversation where we switch languages every 30 minutes. This event is free, however, due to the pandemic, don’t forget to follow these directions:

– If the receptionist asks what you want, tell him/her that you’re a member of #YEES and there’s a language exchange at the terrace that you’re attending.
– Even though Selina’s terrace is an open space and they have all the biosecurity measures, the pandemic isn’t over yet so don’t forget to keep social distance.
– The conversation will be spontaneous as usual. The only rule is switching languages every 30 minutes. You decide which language goes first.

November 20th, from 2 to 4 PM, Free event, Calle Larga 7-93, Cuenca.

Saturday Morning Language Exchange

Dear Community,

We kindly invite you to join our language exchange group Spanish-English/English-Spanish. The sessions are aimed at people willing to improve their conversational skills putting them into practice in a realistic environment and with native speakers.

The sessions are guided by a bilingual facilitator (a teacher with extensive experience in the field) who proposes the activities and conversation topics.

It involves several people whose native language is English and several people whose native language is Spanish. We get together so that the former can practice Spanish and the later can practice English.

Apart from the language learning, the sessions bring an excellent opportunity to meet and interrelate with local people while engaging into the city cultural activities.

Therefore, this language exchange complements formal language learning. It mainly serves for putting oral language skills into practice. Additionally, it constitutes a good opportunity to experience and gain an insight into aspects of Ecuadorian culture and Cuenca local life.

November 20th, from 11 AM to 12:30 PM, Voluntary contribution from $2, Otorongo Lounge, Plaza del Otorongo y Avenida 3 de Noviembre, Cuenca.
