Blue Christmas Liturgy, 21 December 2021

You are invited to gather with the community of St. Christopher Episcopal Mission at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, December 21st for the Blue Christmas Liturgy. Masks are required. All are welcome to worship with St. Christopher Mission regardless of their faith tradition.

A Blue Christmas, a time when we can, with others, acknowledge the “blue” feelings we have at Christmas time, the reasons for them, and offer them to God. This time has been called the “long dark night of the soul” and “the winter of our discontent” in which memories of past experiences and the pain of present experiences can become overwhelming. For some, Christmas Day is the most difficult. For others, it may be Christmas Eve, or New Years Eve, or the beginning of another lonely New Year. In this service, we’ll have some singing appropriate to the season, recognizing that this is not a season of joy for everyone. We will invite you to reflect on the pain, the loneliness, and the sadness you may feel and offer it to God for healing and transformation. We pray that you will find hope and comfort in knowing that you are not alone. Always remember that God knows your pain and loves you unconditionally.

Bartolomé de las Casas y 5-34 Tirso de Molina

Free Language Exchange by YEES

A fun and relaxing environment to use your Spanish and English. Come and join us at Selina’s terrace (Calle Larga 7-93) every Saturday for a chance to practice with native English and Spanish speakers and meet new friends. This Exchange is basically a casual conversation where we switch languages every 30 minutes. This event is free, however, due to the pandemic, don’t forget to follow these directions:

– If the receptionist asks what you want, tell him/her that you’re a member of #YEES and there’s a language exchange at the terrace that you’re attending.
– Even though Selina’s terrace is an open space and they have all the biosecurity measures, the pandemic isn’t over yet so don’t forget to keep social distance.
– The conversation will be spontaneous as usual. The only rule is switching languages every 30 minutes. You decide which language goes first.

Arte-Sano Pop Up and Paint

There’s nothing quite like taking your inspiration from nature directly. En plein air, a French phrase meaning “in the open air,” describes the process of painting a landscape outdoors. The majestic vista from Casa Micuna is the perfect inspiration for creating a lovely Ecuadorian landscape.

Whether you are new to painting or a seasoned painter, Amelia will guide you in your approach to plein air—how to see a scene, how to simplify, and how to capture it in paint, but most importantly, to enjoy the process in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

Saturday Morning Language Exchange

We kindly invite you to join our language exchange group Spanish-English/English-Spanish.

The sessions are aimed at people willing to improve their conversational skills putting them into practice in a realistic environment and with native speakers. They are guided by a bilingual facilitator (a teacher with extensive experience in the field) who proposes the activities and conversation topics.

It involves several people whose native language is English and several people whose native language is Spanish. We get together so that the former can practice Spanish and the later can practice English.
Apart from the language learning, the sessions bring an excellent opportunity to meet and interrelate with local people while engaging in the city’s cultural activities.

Therefore, this language exchange complements formal language learning. It mainly serves for putting oral language skills into practice. Additionally, it constitutes a good opportunity to experience and gain an insight into aspects of Ecuadorian culture and Cuenca local life.

December 4th, from 11 AM to 12:30 PM, Voluntary contribution from $2, Otorongo Lounge, Plaza del Otorongo y Avenida 3 de Noviembre, Cuenca.
