No Gringo Games in August!

Dang it! We were so pleased to learn that the lease on Republica Sur would be extended for another year, and Hearts of Gold had been offered free use of the venue for our fundraising events, including, the Gringo Games (TV-game-show type festivities). The folks who attended the two games that we held all had a blast!

We recently sent out publicity announcing that the games would be held on the third Wednesday of every month. Unfortunately, the landlord had already demanded a large increase in the rent, and then decided to add other restrictions and requirements at the last minute, which were not acceptable. So, we don’t have a place to hold the games next week! Don’t despair. We are on the hunt for a new venue and have several in mind, but I expect we won’t have it together for another month or so. Hope to see you in October in our new location! Stay tuned!

English Spanish language exchange

I would like to organize an English/Spanish language exchange group based around collaborative storytelling. I have a game I designed years ago that people have compared to dungeons and dragons (It is much easier to learn) which I would like to use as the central activity of the group. I have used it as a teaching tool before with quite a bit of success, and it is fun on its own, for those who are interested in that sort of thing.

I am a native English speaker, but my Spanish is fluent.

I am looking for feedback and interest before I decide on a time. Initially there will be no charge, but if it becomes an ongoing event that we all enjoy, then we can come to an agreement of a price (ballpark $5 per person) that will help me justify the time that I’ll need to dedicate to it.

Location is also undecided, but I am open to meeting in most places in Cuenca, or online.

Undecided, $5, Totoracocha, Cuenca.

Qigong is for everyone, especially if you are seeking to improve your life.

– if you want to transform stress into calmness.
– if you are experiencing a lot of pain and would like to heal your body.
– if you know that your body needs exercise and everything you’ve tried so far is too hard.
(Qigong is very easy to perform, and can be done even seated or lying down).
– if you are seeking a spiritual practice that is useful and down to earth…
– if you want to feel focused rather than overwhelmed.

Reviews:

“Cuenca is blessed to have such an artist in Jim Gala. I’ve played with some of the greats on both sides of the Atlantic yet I have never heard such a transformative unique jazz pianist as Jim Gala. Simply put he’s a true musical genius.” —Bill Scott Broadway Singer Composer & Arranger

“No one around plays like pianist Jim Gala. At first, I couldn’t figure out what he was doing musically. I couldn’t analyze the music. It was just too beautiful and beyond my scope. All I could do was let the music wash over me and accept its effect. Jim is one of my musical idols. He is a real soul man. No one plays like him. His musical philosophy sensibility and taste are impeccable. He changed my life with his music. I actually quote him often and wrote about him in my book.”
