Need a Pfizer booster?

In order to receive a Pfizer vax, six people must be present and ready to receive the injection at the same time. They won’t open a bottle of Pfizer for fewer people. I’m hoping to find five other people so I can receive my booster. If you’re in need of a booster and already received your 1st and 2nd dose of Pfizer either in Ecuador or elsewhere (and have the documentation to prove it) or if you are immunocompromised (and have a note from your doctor that states you must have Pfizer because of it), please contact me so we can make this happen.

One-year old Lab-retriever mix needs a loving home

Wally is a sweet, friendly, one-year old male, who looks like a yellow-Lab and golden retriever mix, abandoned by his former owner. He’s a gentle dog, weighing around 50 lbs (23 kgs) right now. He’ll probably fill out to a bit more when he fully matures (60+ lbs maybe). He was found in pretty rough shape by someone who was able to provide immediate/urgent care, but who is unable to provide a stable home. Wally is smart, friendly and engaging, enjoys human contact, and is playful with children and other dogs. He is house-trained and exhibits no aggressive behavior, he seems very trainable, and answers to his name. Although his current caretaker (who recently rescued him from the streets) is unable to provide a stable home for him, she intends to get him neutered within the next week or so.

Siblings kittens for adoption

Their names are Gordito (grey) and Perrito (black). They are 3-years old. They are sterilized. They are very peaceful and independent, but they also enjoy being pampered. When they gain confidence, they can sleep with you and purr very loudly. They really like to be petted and brushed. They will be a great company in your home. Help me give them a home please.

Success stories: 10 new families are getting a hand up

The Cuenca Soup Kitchen’s goal is to lend a hand up to families in need, allowing them to focus on becoming stable.

This week, 10 of our 175 beneficiary families are leaving the food kit program. In addition to the food kits provided by the Cuenca Soup Kitchen, our partnership with Hearts of Gold has empowered these beneficiaries with workshops to help them succeed.

This enables us to move 10 of the 300 families on our waiting list into the food kit program, giving them a helping hand towards stability.

Your support transforms lives!

New partner for the Hogar

Foundations often use a lot of buzz words to impress. But beyond the words is what do we do exactly to help those we serve? At Foundation Hogar de Esperanza we have an impressive list of partners who we work with every day to assist those who are in need. By working together, we can do so much more. We could not be prouder to add to the current list of over 20 partners, a new one, Fundacion Libertad Cuenca.

The Hogar, focus on stability

Do you think just providing food to someone is going to create stability? Of course, you don’t, and we don’t either. Each month, in partnership with Supermaxi, Esperanza Food Bank and Soup Kitchen provides over 2,600 meals and food kits to 1,300 beneficiaries. But we do not stop there. We get to the root of the problem.

We all know that a bored pet can lead to disaster – whether it is a cat or a dog. The poor little one may start tearing up your house, clawing and destroying anything in its path. Why not pick up some of our entertaining Kong toys.

Kong toys are great stress relievers and are available in specific sizes based on the type and size of your loved one. Cat toys often can be stuffed with catnip, which may be sold together with the toy or as a separate item. Many Kong toys can be filled with enticing treats (save money – make your own fillers with their favorite treats) or feature little noisemakers for your little one.

Come in today and review our large selection of toys, bedding, clothing, and specialty foods. We offer the best products in Cuenca at the best prices. If you like thin-crust pizza, this is the place to try. Anthony, (the owner and our waiter) was most accommodating when I asked for pepperoni instead of prosciutto ham on my pizza. 90 days tourist visa extension, new fee

Hi all,

As you probably know, in Ecuador, the government fees, and fines, in almost everything, are calculated in base of the Ecuadorian minimum wage, a percentage of it (2%, 5%, 50%) or: one minimum wage, 2 minimum wages, 100 minimum wages, etc.

Since January first, 2022, the new Ecuadorian minimum wage is $425 and the new fee for the tourist visa extension, for 90 days, is now $141.67

Any questions, any time, free consultancy in visas to live in Ecuador.

Too many new products at CosasPrep

Big things are happening at CosasPrep. Our 2 sea shipments are now in Guayaquil, waiting for customs clearance. We will not have nearly enough room to display all of the current and new items in the space in the Sunrise Café, so we will be closing it and moving everything in our larger store at Simon Bolivar.

Anything we don’t sell at the Sunrise store will have to be moved to the larger store on Simon Bolivar. So … we are having a 1-day 40% off sale on Tuesday January 25. The sale includes security cameras, EMF blocking products, filtered water pitchers, AAA and AA and 9V USB rechargeable batteries, and more. We will keep you posted on the delivery of new products.

Meanwhile, we will still hold the old price of $149 for anyone that wants to get on the waiting list for our room air purifiers. After seeing the outrageous price increase in shipping costs, the new price (for anyone that isn’t on the waiting list) will be $169. Extra filters are also on the ship – $15. To get on the waiting list, just email us

Craniosacral therapy available 27-29 January at idiomArt

Sessions still available on 28/29 January.

Craniosacral relaxation and osteopathic mobilization does wonders for solving stubborn ailments like headaches, stiff neck, tinnitus, jaw tension, lower back and hip issues.

With our understanding of how many of these are symptoms of stress can also manifest as depression, anxiety, frustration being able to relax both sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems eases the obstacles to energy flow and thus returns the body systems to balance leading to wellness and a ‘dissipation’ of symptoms.

Looking forward to supporting your journey,

Spanish: stop translating in your head and start thinking in Spanish

Imagine this:

A Spanish speaker comes up to you and starts speaking to you in Spanish.

How do you see yourself? What do you do?

Are you fumbling for words?

Stuttering and pausing for long periods of time as you translate in your head and think about the different verb conjugations, etc.?

Recommendation for Café del Rio, restaurant/café

If you are looking for a lovely spot to have a snack or light lunch you must try Café del Rio. My favorite place is a table on the balcony where you can listen to the river while you watch all the birds that are attracted by the flowers and trees surrounding the café. Sit back and enjoy an empanada, tamale or sandwich. Or, if you want something sweet, try the cheesecake! Pair it with a glass of fresh juice, a smoothie or maybe a hot chocolate. Delicious.

Recommendation for Olando Siguenza, transportation, driver

My husband and I used Orlando’s services recently to get us from Cuenca to Guayaquil (the long route since the Cajas route was still closed) and then back to Cuenca from Guayaquil using the Cajas route. He’s a charming guy, but best of all, made us feel safe on those winding, often foggy roads. What a treat! Not only does Orlando do long hauls like that, he is also happy to tour folks around to sights in the region, like Ingapirca, the Cajas, and city to city. You won’t be sorry contacting him. I can promise you that.
