The importance of your hair and nails done at C&C

What can you do to avoid ingrown nails?
To sidestep ingrown toenails, wear shoes that fit your feet properly and shape your toenails a certain way, says Clemencia Vizhnay, your manicurist at C&C. We can find out how a proper trimming can prevent ingrown toenails, taking good care of your feet and toenails can ward off calluses, athletes’ foot and other problems. For people with diabetes, good foot care is particularly important. Cut toenails straight across, it’s very important for us. Wearing comfortable shoes and roomy socks made from natural fibers like cotton and wool will allow moisture to escape and help avoid athletes foot and calluses. Always wear a sandals when you are at the public locker rooms to prevent fungus.

Health and wellness are also considered and addressed during the time of a manicure or pedicure appointment. Getting your nails done certainly isn’t the same thing as seeing a medical professional for severe hand and foot issues. However, there are several physical and mental benefits to seeing a manicurist.

The importance of your hair done:
People may make haircut appointments because they need a style change or style maintenance. Although these may comprise most of your appointments, we eventually have a client who needs our help repairing damage to their hair. Sometimes it is a DIY haircut that went terribly wrong. It could also be a bad haircut at the hands of an unqualified stylist that needs an experienced, qualified professional to fix it. Whatever the reason, you will need to harness your creativity to cut style out of the hair chaos say Clemencia who owns the C&C hair salon.

Hairstyling work extends beyond the salon. Clients will seek out the advice of a certified professional when they have on-going trouble with their hair, particularly if they are familiar and comfortable with that hairstylist. Our team at C&C, always finds a solution for the client, while also working within the boundaries of your lifestyle and budget, can be a challenge that requires creative problem solving.

The values of the I Ching – Book of Changes – study group

Become the best version of yourself, and flow like pure water through difficult situations …

“No community can survive without a dependable source of pure water. In a similar way, human beings cannot survive without a reliable source of spiritual nourishment. In fact, we need two wells: an external source of guidance, such as the I Ching, and an internal source of guidance, which must be our own good character …”

Are you interested in learning more about the I Ching, and how it can guide you through life?

We will have some copies of the book for sale, you can also get it on kindle or as an app.

Looking to rent or buy in Cuenca?

You need someone with experience in how Ecuadorians build their homes. Someone who is honest and will point out all the flaws. Someone who will explain the flaws to you, of the home, you’re considering. Then will negotiate, the lease or purchase, on your behalf to ensure you get the very best deal. Someone with 25 years of experience, in building homes, both in the United States and Ecuador. Who knows and understands what you want and expect. And who works for you.

It’s no secret that Realtors tend to drive up the price of rent. They make the owner believe that their property is worth more than it is, so they can get a better commission. They will try to get the owner to increase the deposit, again for more money. This can all be avoided, with a Facilitator who is on your side. Who will look after your best interest.

Recommendation for Williams Reyes, physical therapist and personal trainer.

Two months ago, my wife could hardly move, she had such pain. For years in the US and Ecuador, therapists, chiropractors, and doctors treated her back for her pain. After two weeks, Williams discovered it was not her back, but her hip. He started treating her hip for her pain and the difference is astounding. She is moving so much better and is pain free. My shoulder was hurting badly. Williams worked on that, and the pain is almost completely gone. Williams will come to your house to do his therapy. Contact him by phone at +593 98 348 5626.

Tropical escape: 3-story bamboo beach house in Mompiche, Esmeraldas

Exuding the feel of open-air living, situated in the heart of Mompiche’s most beautiful neighborhood, and less than 50 steps from the ocean, this property is everyone’s tropical escape fantasy, made-real. Custom-built, multi-level bamboo home in the iconic ‘paradise lost’ fishing/surf village of Mompiche, on Ecuador’s northwest coast where jungle meets sea. Mompiche is the next frontier of Ecuador’s burgeoning surf/ecotourism destinations – the time is now.

Except for hardwood floors, this 4 BR / 2 bath home is constructed entirely of locally-sourced eco-alternative materials: giant bamboo, palm trunks, and thatch. Enclosed living space across the three floors totals 1,518 square feet (141 m2), with roughly half of the 2,056 square foot (191 m2) property’s yard dedicated to lush tropical vegetation.

Built by renowned bamboo craftsman, Dairon Cobo in 2009, this home has been consistently well-maintained, including a refinishing of floors and exteriors, roof thatch replacement, regular pest prevention, and recent installation of a new perimeter fence and hardwood doors throughout.

Options for this property are many: straightforward conversion to a charming beach hotel, your permanent dream home next to South America’s longest-breaking left wave, or the most coveted digital nomad co-op/escape in Latin America… buyer’s choice.

Motivated seller. Price reduced to $129,000. Wild west opportunity!

Key highlights include:

• 2nd and 3rd floor views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding jungle
• high-speed fiber optic internet (currently 25mbps, soon to be 40mbps)

Seeking a fancy lightbulb store…

Once, in a taxi ride from the Municipal Cemetery heading towards Huayna-Capac (and Calle Larga), I passed a lighting store that displayed every size and type of these modern light bulbs with the visible filaments. Do you know the exact location of this store or one very similar?

Thanks in advance!

I am a certified teacher from Cuenca and for years I have taught Spanish to people of different nationalities and different levels. I really love teaching and one of the reasons is because I have had the opportunity to share and exchange cultural experiences with my students.

My teaching approach depends completely on my students: their level, their goals, their needs and their preferences. So, each student decides if we are going to focus on the development of: speaking, listening, reading, writing or on the improvement of any other aspect of the language as grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, etc.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) + Vitamin C IV therapy- energy for your cells

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a fat-soluble, vitamin-like compound produced naturally in the body.

It is an essential element for many health systems since it is required to function in every single cell in the body properly. In order to sustain enough energy to perform bodily functions, the mitochondria in our cells use fat and other nutrients to create useable energy sources- this critical conversion process is only made possible by enough CoQ10.

Coq10 is a highly potent antioxidant used in medical practice to protect cells from the effects of aging and free radicals.

Although the body creates its CoQ10, it does not always do so consistently or adequately. As we age or become ill, our bodies can become less efficient at producing this essential compound, and a lack of CoQ10 is associated with decreased energy, the damaging effects of oxidative stress, declining cognition, Diabetes, cancer, fibromyalgia, heart disease, muscle conditions, and other health ailments.

Recommendation for Kolo, restaurant

There are several “US” style restaurants that are always fun to visit. Frank, with Kolo, opened right at the end of Covid and had a bit of an uphill battle to get his place up to his standard. He now has a great kitchen and friendly efficient staff. His meals…including one of our favorites, huevos rancheros, are always well prepared and delicious. We love all the restaurants, but Frank’s Kolo is always a no brainer and we highly recommend it.

Recommendation for Elizabeth and Mateo at Petme Vet, petsitting/house sitting

Elizabeth and Mateo come highly recommended on Facebook and here on GringoPost. I met with Elizabeth and her mother twice before my 7-day trip and I was pleased with their level of professionalism. Very transparent regarding who would be in our home and provided a packet with background checks of all who worked for them.

Every day I received videos via WhatsApp of the cats during their feeding times and they even helped with the watering of my many house plants. Once I realized that I would arrive a day later than expected, Elizabeth was able to work out an arrangement without a hassle.

Everything that was used was cleaned. The home looked better than before we left. I am very happy with their services and will be using them again in the near future.

Recommendation for Dr. Santiago Romo, stem cell and ozone treatment

I found out that I had been diagnosed with arthritis in my back and was told that I would need surgery and in the United States a friend of mine told me about Dr Romo and the stem cell treatment and ozone treatment. To my surprise, I came down here and it was very efficient it was not invasive in any way shape or form… The injections were the hardest part of the whole process and that was not bad at all. Four days of treatment and the cost was one quarter the cost that this might have cost me if I could get the treatment in the United States.

Within 2 days of the treatments my back pain was gone and now that I’m headed back to the States I feel a lot better and 100% different than when I arrived here. So, if anyone out there is in the same situation, they need to at least call Dr. Romo and have a consultation before they do anything else. I can’t believe how quickly my problem was solved after having months of pain in the States and being here for 10 days. And, now it’s all gone. Unbelievable!

A Gran Roca Christmas to Remember, Farm-to-Table Dinner

We here at Gran Rorca wish to thank all of the guests who attended our Thanksgiving to Remember Farm-to-Table Dinner at the beautiful Hotel Los Balcones. What a lovely setting to have a special dinner you’ll surely remember. We also want to thank our guests who said to us, “I hope you will do more of these events in the future.” Your support has started us planning a Christmas to Remember Farm-to-Table Dinner. And, in fact, we already have a number of guests signed up on our Christmas Dinner List. If you would like to be added to the list, just send us a quick email to info@granroca.net. We plan to have the dinner on Christmas Day in the afternoon with two seatings: 4 PM and 6 PM. Currently, we have both seatings available.

One menu item is for sure, and that is our home grown, pasture raised, smoked turkey. A number of guests came up to us after our Thanksgiving Dinner to remark how juicy and delicious the Smoked Turkey was. We have both a professional commercial smoker and a special technique on just how we cook our turkeys. Yes, it matters.

Brats rhymes with cots, not cats and it was introduced to the US by German settlers around the mid-19th century.

Usually, a brat is made of pork, pork and beef or pork and veal meats.
