DESCRIPTION:William Castle directed horror and thriller films including The Tingler (1959)\, House on Haunted Hill (1959)\, and Mr. Sardonicus (1961)\, featuring actors such as Vincent Price and Margaret Hamilton. His films often included a gimmick\, for instance\, movie theater seats were wired to deliver electric shocks to the audience in The Tingler\, and for other releases\, actors\, dressed as doctors and nurses\, were hired to hang around the lobbies in case anyone was in jeopardy of dying of fright! On Friday\, October 31\, you’ll be able to relive childhood trauma watching 13 Ghosts (1960)\, a film that had me hiding behind my theater seat when I was six. In the film\, a family moves into a haunted mansion whose mysterious former owner invented special glasses that allowed him to see the ghosts. A 2001 remake was a disappointment. You can join Corazónes deOro / Hearts of Gold at 4 PM (the film will start around 4:30) at Otorongo Lounge on Halloween to watch the original black and white film. The movie plot is fun\, but if you’re like me\, you’ll also enjoy the crude special effects\, awful monster makeup\, and terrible dialogue and overacting.
