Are you interested in giving back to the citizens of Cuenca? A large public high school (with a focus on trade skills) is seeking additional volunteers to help with the English Language Department. My first year of volunteering at the school was 2017, and I have enjoyed every moment of it. There are currently 3 volunteers.
You do not need to be proficient in speaking Spanish to volunteer! The students need your native English more than your Spanish speaking skills. Classes meet Monday-Friday. Each class is 40 minutes. The first class meets at 7 AM, and the final class ends at 1 PM.
You may volunteer for any day, any hour, and for any number of students – as few as 2, or as many as 30. The school is located very near the regional (¨free¨) hospital, and is served by many bus lines.
Teaching materials can be provided, you can create your own materials, or do a combination. I have always used my own materials, and you are welcome to use them if you wish. There are no examinations or grading because we are not Ecuadorian -licensed teaching professionals. The students, staff, and parents are truly appreciative of the help.
If you are interested in joining us, please let me know. I am happy to answer any questions, arrange a meet and greet with the school, etc.
