We have lived in Cuenca for more than 10 years and have done business with several banks and cooperatives during that time. We have also watched several friends contend with having sizable investments in a cooperative that failed. The importance of doing as much due diligence as possible cannot be minimized.
Although Cooperativa 23 de Julio is relatively new in Cuenca, it has a long history in Ecuador and survived the financial crisis in 1998-1999 that caused many other institutions to fail. It is a Segment 1 cooperative with a strong rating of AA-, putting it near the top of all cooperatives in the country.
We contacted Marco León at the Totoracocha branch where he is in charge of commercial and investment operations. From the very first contact, Marco has been very professional, caring, helpful and has gone out of his way to make sure that the customer’s needs are fully met beyond expectations.
Marco is fluent in English and made opening an account and a CD simple, going so far as to even make sure that we were treated well at their branch on Avenida de las Americas and 3 de Noviembre when we visited there.
I highly recommend him and the cooperativa for your banking needs. They offer excellent interest rates on CDs and the customer care is unrivaled.
