Single status documentation

I’m from the United States, I’ve lived in Ecuador for about eight and a half years, and I want to get married to an Ecuadorian. However, one of the requirements that the Registro Civil has is that I provide an official document from the US stating my marital status (single, married, divorced, etc.).

Unfortunately, after contacting the Vital Services office in the US, they say that they only provide birth, death, and marriage/divorce certificates. Since I have never been married, there is no document stating that fact. Additionally, the US consulate in Guayaquil says that they no longer are willing to provide an affidavit stating that I am single since the policy in Ecuador changed to only allow official documents, not sworn statements.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do to satisfy the requirement of the Registro Civil?
