Next week we will celebrate May 24 – The Battle of Pichincha that won Ecuador’s independence from the Spanish rule. This year the holiday it will be celebrated on May 26, making it a long weekend. The battle was pretty bloody, back in 1822 when it was fought on the slopes of the Pichincha volcano, 3,500 meters above sea-level, next to the city of Quito. Consider that Cuenca is only 2500 meters above sea level.
Since it is a long weekend, some of you may be wondering what to do. Why not rent a car and venture out into the countryside where you can enjoy fresh air, relaxing views, and having time to yourselves. Cuenca Car Share has vehicles available.
