The ¡Vamos! Spanish book club is the right place for you if you enjoy reading and you have an intermediate or advanced knowledge of the language. We aim at practicing Spanish while enjoying the reading, interacting with other people and learning different aspects of the culture.
We propose one book per month. Every person reads the book at home and we meet once at the end of the month to share impressions and opinions about what we have read. The session will be guided by a facilitator that will stimulate the conversation with questions and topics related to the book.
For this month we chose the novel “Cajas de cartón” written by the Mexican author Francisco Jiménez. It is an intense account of the journey of a Mexican migrant family crossing the border into the United States in search of a better life. “Cajas de carton” has won the Pura Belpre Honor Award. It is a story told by a young person who wants to study and obtain the right to choose a home. It is a story of survival, faith and hope.
