In this 4-day workshop, you will learn how to make an ancient Mayan musical instrument commonly used in cacao ceremonies and a drinking vessel shaped like a cacao pod for drinking sacred chocolate.
The workshop is led by ceramicist, musician, and archaeomusicologist Esteban Valdivia from Argentine and ceramicist and musician Laura Vergara.
Esteban has been studying pre-Colombian musical instruments in various museums throughout the Americas. He has been permitted to X-ray original artifacts to understand how they were made. Using the information, he has made replicas of a variety of different pre-Colombian instruments. The musical piece you will make in this workshop is based on an original Mayan piece found in the National Museum of Ethnology and Anthropology in Guatemala City.
We have limited space for this workshop, so please sign up soon…
