Getting US mobile phone number in Ecuador prior to trip

I’m wondering if someone has ideas about how to get a working US mobile (and activation) while here in Ecuador.

Basically, I really want a US number (along with mobile data access) prior to arriving in the US.

I’d like to, for example, set up an Uber account for use when I land.

I’ve thought of having a SIM sent here, but I suspect that it will need to be activated in the US.

And, I know that they sell “universal” SIMs at the Quito airport, but I’m not sure if they would have a US number.
