Thank you for the responses to my question last week so I thought this info might be useful for some readers.
I investigated myself and spoke to 5 civil servants who work in migration police via my contacts with the DA and in the municipality of Canar. I even went to the airport in Cuenca and asked there with migration police. 4/5 said that an Ecuador passport is not required as long as you have the cedula and a passport from another country, in this case, a European one. However, the child must travel with both parents. If not, a power of attorney is needed from a notary.
Since the numbers (4/5) favor not getting an Ecuador passport, I will not bother.
Thanks again for your responses.
