Bus from Carcelén terminal to Quito airport

Thank you Luis, Andre and Juan for your great responses to my similar questions regarding Quitumbe to the airport.

Do you or others know what time the last bus leaves the Carcelén terminal for the airport on weekday evenings?

And what do taxis charge from Carcelén to the airport at approx 9 PM.

Problems with ECShopping?

Is there anyone else that is having or has had a problem ever receiving their orders from ECShopping? If so, please email me if you found a way to get your items from them. These are extremely important items.

Are you suffering from venous insufficiency?

If so, I would very much appreciate hearing from you as to what has worked for you, and what has not worked for you, in managing or curing your condition. Diet? Supplements? Compression stockings? Exercise? Physical Therapy? Medications? Lifestyle changes? Leg elevation? Sclerotherapy? Vein stripping? Vein ablation by laser or radio frequency? Something else? Doing nothing at all?

Feel free to email me in total confidence or post your response. Thanks,

Sweet JJ

Rescued and written by: Eden Scott Cross

JJ was literally thrown out of the gate of the home that he probably had grown up in. The old lady lives in a shack of a house and said she didn’t want him. He ran across the street stopping 5 feet from the sidewalk, and just stood there. I chased him back to the other sidewalk where I had been walking, put the yoga strap on for a lead (I’d just bought). He ran to the gate of the only home he knew and his mother dog was lying next to the gate looking at him with her under the 4” space between the solid bottom of the gate and the dirt driveway and she was crying. He was trying to get through the gate and he too was crying!

I was finally able to pull him out and get him to come with me. I tried to get a taxi, but the empty ones just passed us by. Finally, one stopped and told me he would not take a dog. TI walked him back to where I could sit down and figure out what to do next. He continued to cry on and off and trembled often. We went to vet Dr. Gallardo (a prince among vets). JJ was full of fleas and some ticks too.

Animal shelters

Hello friends! I live in the Racar area and have been trying to find a nearby animal shelter to volunteer. I’ve heard there’s one nearby but cannot locate it. Does anyone know of an animal shelter close, within the city limits, without having to go in the car (as I ride a motorcycle)? Any information would be appreciated. Have a great day!

Looking for 1 or 2 BR apartment for long-term rental

Looking for 1 or 2 BR semi – or unfurnished apartment for long-term rental in Cuenca, $300 or less, I don’t have pets.

Must have a washing machine connection and be close to Batan Shopping. Rent and rate of $300 or less.

Kevin O’Kane:

Good lordy! We ordered 20 – they sent us 40

We ordered 20 heaters of 2 different styles, but the factory made a last-minute substitution. We ordered 20 sleek, bladeless/leafless heaters and 20 cute piggy-shaped heaters. We ended up with no piggy-shaped heaters and 40 of these quiet, bladeless/leafless heaters. So…they are on sale at 20% off. (Regularly $27.99, now only $22.39.)

They are a one-button, simple-to-use model that are great for nightstands.

We also now have 3 sizes of dehumidifiers, which are perfect for controlling humidity and thus mold.

Visit our easy-to-find store just 5 blocks West of Parque Calderon. We accept cash, credit cards, XRP, XLM, BTC and PayPal.

Gold/Silver: What do Central Banks know that they don’t tell you?

During the 3rd quarter, Central Banks added 399.3 tons of gold to their holdings (source: Metal Focus, World Gold Council 1 Nov. 2022) while India added 800 tons of silver (source: Reuters 17 Aug. 2022).

Real deal BBQ at Pájaro y Bestia

Another record breaking weekend at Pájaro y Bestia. Thank you Cuenca for your support.

We wish to take a moment to explain our cooking process on our now famous pork ribs. Our pork ribs are cooked from beginning to end in a carbon fired smoker. The process takes approximately 5 hours – 1 hour to prep and 4 hours to cook. We do not boil our ribs, we do not sous vide the ribs, we do not cook them in a conventional oven, and we do not put our ribs on a smoker for a brief amount of time and then finish them in another piece of equipment. We are real deal BBQ. If we cook meat in anything other than our three smokers, we tell you. Even when we braise beef, we generally put the braising pot into a smoker to trap additional flavor.

We price our ribs by the pound, but we sell them in quarter pound increments. One quarter pound of ribs will be two small or one large rib bone. So, for only $2.75, you can come try one rib and discover that we are in fact the real deal. But to borrow someone else’s ad campaign, I bet you can’t eat just one.

Please come by this week and try one rib. After tasting it, then you can vote in the “Best of GringoPost” and honestly say that this is the Best BBQ in the city.

Sé la bestia!!!

Recommendation for Emilio Morocho, driver/facilitator/Emilio of All Trades

Greetings — we reserved our pickup from Guayaquil from Emilio Morocho (Cuenca Car Share) and he greeted us with a welcome sign, a smile, and a hug — a friendship was born. Emilio is one-of-a-kind, a true “Emilio of all trades.” He has been so helpful in our first couple of weeks here in Cuenca.

On our journey over the Cajas, he told us about the different types of vegetation we saw, he explained the cultural significance of many different sights on the drive, and he even stopped to show us and try many different varieties of fruits at a small stand on the side of the road before our journey over the pass. He made us feel immediately welcome in Ecuador.

In addition to the drive, Emilio also helped us get necessary copies of documents required for temporary residency in Ecuador, as well as helping get those items shipped to our visa agent in Quito. Without his assistance, these tasks would have been daunting, as our Spanish is currently at a restaurant level at best.

Do not hesitate to reach out to Emilio for any kind of assistance. He is a true diamond in the rough in this gem of a city in Ecuador.

Recommendation for La Chicheria, restaurant – Ecuadorian Nouvelle Cuisine

La Chicheria used to be located on Solano, near Tres Puentes. It is now located on Av. 12 de Abril y Calle del Farol, opposite the pedestrian bridge to Plaza Otorongo. Formerly there was a restaurant here, called Vino.

La Chicheria is best categorized as Nouvelle Ecuadorian Cuisine, using local ingredients for Ecuadorion imaginative dishes. The menu is varied and includes sufficent vegetarian options. It offers one dessert of the day. In keeping with the name they offer a wide range of Chichas: Natural, Fermented and Alcoholic.

Prices are moderate ($$) and main dishes are typical, not above $8.75. We were not very hungry: we shared a starter and dessert, had a main dish each (2) and a glass of fermented Chicha each ($3). The bill came to $31.

The service by Gustavo is attentive and he skillfully navigates you through the menu. The interior is comfortable and simple with a an attractive black/white internal mural.

Opening hours: Wednesday to Saturday 12:30 – 10 PM; Sunday 12:30 – 4 PM.
