Upcoming elections

Hello! My name is Gerri, and I am a permanent resident here in Cuenca Ecuador. I want to know how can I get registered to vote for the upcoming 2023 elections. I tried to find information on the CNE official page, but there is nothing. I have tried looking on the page, by putting my cedula number but it says I am not registered to vote. If anyone knows anything please let me know!

Thank you!

Playroom donations needed for refugee children

Playroom Donations Needed:
GRACE (Give Refugees A Chance), recently recognized as one of the best NGO’s to help the most vulnerable people by UNESCO and other groups in Cuenca, is seeking donations to help them better work with the children of refugees and migrants. The staff, in addition to other medical personnel, now include a speech therapist and a counselor. In order to better be able to support the needs of these children, who have often experienced significant trauma, we want to set up a playroom. The room will be used to help children have a better outcome with speech therapy, counseling and other care provided by GRACE. Children will also have a comfortable place to wait when other siblings or parents are receiving treatment from our health care providers.

We are in need of the following items in either new or good condition:

Moka and Sable

Back story– these two little girls were found in a box under a tree in the park–along the Yanuncay river–shivering–lost—shaking, and have been in foster care here for just a month. They have thrived and are happy and ready for a new home. They play well together and with the rest of the pack and are trained to go outside. They are social and have lots of energy. They are non-aggressive and will likely be medium-sized dogs. If you like young dogs and can spend some time with them, that would be perfect. You are welcome to come and see them.

Actor auditions – no experience needed – Friday, Jan 20th

A local media company needs a few actors for shooting a commercial. Must be an English Speaker. No one needs to win an Oscar, just be yourself and each part has very few lines so a nice way for a novice to dip their toe in and get some free coffee and dessert while trying out.

We have the following roles –

60s-80s Man
Has a few lines regarding how when he was younger he parachuted.

60s-80s woman –
Has to be able to spin around half way at the end of saying how she was a dancer in her youth.

Spanish lessons

Would you like to learn or improve your Spanish online? If so, I can help you!
I am a certified teacher from Cuenca and for years I have taught Spanish to people of different nationalities and different levels. I really love teaching and one of the reasons is because I have had the opportunity to share and exchange cultural experiences with my students.

My teaching approach depends completely on my students: their level, their goals, their needs and their preferences. So, each student decides if we are going to focus on the development of: speaking, listening, reading, writing or on the improvement of any other aspect of the language as grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, etc.

Like you, I have also lived abroad… So, I know that, at the beginning, learning a new language can be difficult and challenging. But do not worry, if you wish I can help you to learn Spanish.

Please email me if you are interested so we can discuss more about the lessons, schedule, your goals and rates.

The first 30 minute 1 on 1 online lesson is free of charge. If you want, I can also put you in touch with my current students so that you can know more about me and the lessons.

Your Spanish fluency could be just around the corner

Myth: “Speak Spanish fluently in just two weeks”.
Realidad: Fluency doesn’t grow like magic beans, sorry!

Myth: “Tongue twisters help you to articulate better and practice hard phonics in a foreign language”.
Realidad: Tongue twisters don’t work for language learners ’cause sometimes even native speakers pronounce them correctly, so, will a language learner?

Anyway, short post today.
Un buen finde.

Recommendation for Francisco Mendoza, Best brownies in town

So Frank’s post yesterday caught my attention because I love brownies and yes, was tired of the dried out, tasteless ones in the local cafes. Frank has restored my faith in brownies again. In my opinion, these really are the best in town. The brownies are homemade, moist inside, crunchy outside, with chocolaty fudge and the perfect sweetness. They come freshly sealed for same day delivery. You can’t beat the price. The picture was exactly what I received. Add to that, Frank is a super nice family guy. I’ll be ordering these every week.
