Azuay Community Theater needs a new home

On December 29, 2022 the Azuay Community Theater’s landlord informed the president of the organization that the lease on the theater’s current space would not be renewed when the current contract expires at the end of March 2023. The theater’s neighbor, the Hotel Oro Verde, has offered more than twice the theater’s current monthly rent to take over the lease. Not surprisingly, the landlord accepted the offer.

ACT intends to go forward at its current location with a concert on January 28 and 29 to benefit the theater featuring Deb Davis, Cindy Benson, Glenn Gano and Mark Deckard, as well as the production of four one-act plays in mid-February. Subsequent shows, however, will be at a new location, as yet to be determined.

During the four years the theater has occupied its current location, the organization has accumulated, at its own expense, sufficient seating, sound and lighting equipment, and construction material to be able to build out a new theater in an essentially empty space. The board has asked a few Cuenca real estate agents to help locate potential sites for a new theater. Property owners, theater patrons and interested parties are welcome to help with the search and can obtain a description of the desired specifications for a new site by emailing
