Whether you’re a beginner to Tai Chi or would like to improve your practice, this group could be for you. Tai Chi is excellent for gently developing lower body strength and flexibility and for improving your balance as well as your overall health. Chen-style Tai Chi is a more than 300-year old practice that incorporates conscious breathing techniques into deliberate, meditative movements which benefit both mind and body.
This Introduction to Tai Chi practice will focus on fundamental movements of the 18 Form and the Eight Brocades Qi Gong routine, and on building toward the full Old Frame First Routine 74 Form. We welcome all ages and all levels from absolute novice to intermediate.
Classes will run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 – 10:45 AM in the northeast corner of Parque de la Madre under the shade of the large trees (closest to Av 12 de Abril and the Tomebamba River). If it is actively raining or the ground is simply too wet, we will meet under the rings of the planetarium. Classes will be led by Wayne Materi in English though we are always happy to accommodate our Spanish-speaking friends. Classes are free, but we welcome drop-in donations of $2.
