Real stories from the Hogar – bringing smiles

Thirteen-year-old Brittany has a lot of responsibility. She lives with her mother and younger sister in a rented room. Since her father left, things have been difficult for her mother. They have had no contact with him or support from him since. Mom works as a kitchen assistant earning just $30 per week, hardly enough to cover the monthly rent of $120.

Brittany does not have a lot to smile about. She faithfully takes good care of her little sister when her mother is working. It is hard on her. Her self-esteem is low. She is a beautiful young woman, even though she smiles with her lips closed because of the condition of her teeth. There is no possibility that her mother could afford the dental treatment she requires.

Thanks to our partners and you, Brittany has qualified for Hogar de Esperanza’s free dental program. She has received braces and a full year of free dental treatment. It will go a long way to helping Brittany feel better about herself and give her the confidence she needs to smile.
