Real stories from the Hogar – Dental Program

Carlos and his sister live with their mother in one room. They have not been able to afford much since their father abandoned them 5 years ago. His mother pays $120 per month for the room and she works cleaning houses for $30 per week to pay for the rent. She receives a bono of $50 per month to pay for food. Esperanza Food Bank provides her supplementary food. Carlos, only 10-years-old, is doing well in school but he has self-esteem problems because of the condition of his teeth. Due to chronic malnutrition, his teeth are crooked.

Carlos is the first patient in our dental program and he will be receiving free dental care and braces. We are grateful to Dra. Olga Romero for giving Carlos his first cleaning and fillings.
