Meet the artists:
Pedro Pablo Tocabens, is a Cuban artist who moved to Cuenca, Ecuador recently. He has been a visual artist for most of his life and he enjoys exploring different ways to express himself artistically.
His exhibition, “Una Mirada No Dice Nada”, is a collection of oil paintings that portray the way a human gaze can be both mesmerizing and haunting. His paintings invite us to reflect on how we may think we know what a person is thinking or feeling just by looking at his or her face, but can we be sure? His use of color and texture add life to the paintings causing the viewer to not only see the expressions but feel the emotions of the subject as well.
His exhibition is in our 2nd floor gallery.
Philip Hall hails from the United States but has been living in Cuenca, Ecuador for some time. He is a life-long student of the arts and focuses his artistic expression through photography. Philip will take one of his original photos and digitally render it until it becomes something completely different. At times, he will combine images to create textures that can oftentimes feel surreal.
His exhibition, “Crossing the Ts & Dotting the Eyes”, is an abstract collection of photos that play on reflections, movement, color and light. His photographs are oftentimes confused for paintings. Each image is a journey through one’s abstract consciousness and reminds us that reality can be blurred at the edges.
His exhibition is in our main floor gallery.
Both shows will be up until October 8. All artwork by both artists are for sale.
