Hogar de Esperanza

Time to say goodbye.

You open your drawers and they are there. Open your closets and they are there. Get out a frying pan and you see them; all those things taking up space but you no longer use. We can help you say goodbye to all those things you longer need.

Esperanza Thrift Shop is Cuenca’s only legal, charity Thrift Shop and has been operating for six years. We have donated items to thousands and have raised over $100,000 to support those in need at Foundation Hogar de Esperanza. You can drop off your donations at Juan Motalvo 8-18 and Mariscal Sucre or if you need us to pick the items up at your place, you can contact Fernando at: services@hogaresperanza.org.

Thank you for your support,

Pepito is looking for a forever family

Pepito is an adorable small-medium-sized dog that has overcome a lot and is ready for adoption. When he was rescued, he had a very bad skin condition but it is now managed by a good diet and medication. Despite his rough start he is loving and affectionate. Because he is considered a middle-aged dog he is playful but not overly active and great for those of us who want to take walks but not have to run or who just want a lap dog to cuddle.

If you are interested, please call Paola at 098 672 2197. Paola speaks English and can answer any questions about Pepito or any other adoptable puppy or dog available.

Difficulty using the Azutaxi app

On Sept. 13 there was a post about having difficulty using the Azutaxi Application. The poster wrote this:

The following is from my friend, Jorge Naranjo. He is the developer of the Azutaxi App. Please let me know if this procedure solves your problem using the Azutaxi App.

Joint pain and arthritis IV therapy- collagen and vitamin C

Joint pain and arthritis are conditions that a significant majority of the population will face in their lifetime. The pain is usually attributed to inflammation and poor joint health due to malnutrition.

Collagen can help to support the strength and flexibility of the tendons and ligaments and aid recovery after exertion alongside vitamin C; the benefits of collagen might be even further heightened.

Collagen is a protein that plays a significant role in building the body’s structures. When it comes to muscles, ligaments and tendons, collagen provides elasticity, which allows the tissues to stretch.

Vitamin C plays several important roles throughout the body, many of which relate to cell protection, growth and reparation. In addition, it is a vital vitamin for the formation of collagen. Enzymes that are dependent on vitamin C work to combine glycine and proline to trigger the body’s initial phase of collagen production. That is why vitamin C and collagen together can ensure maximum benefits.

One of the main benefits of collagen and vitamin C is to help those suffering from regular joint complaints and pain by stopping the symptoms from worsening and becoming a lifelong medical issue.

It strengthens cartilage as collagen is a crucial component of articular cartilage, the tissues at the ends of bones and joints that allow them to move smoothly against each other.

Ideal For:

• Individuals suffering from joint pain related to age, immune disorders, or poor health
• Individuals looking for additional pain relief in conjunction with their traditional medical therapies as advised by their physician

IV Therapy is a way to get the nutrients you lack into the bloodstream. IVs are excellent at boosting energy, detoxifying your body, balancing your immune system, and reversing the aging process

Book your home appointment now.

Cost of IV $85 + $5 transportation fee.

Full body, deep tissue massage – 90-minute session

A deep tissue massage is a type of massage that aims to invigorate and heal a person’s muscles and connective tissue.

Deep tissue massage works on specific areas of muscle tension in the body. Stress, bad postures, or intensive physical activity can cause contracted muscles, and the best way to treat this is a good massage.

Recommendation for Maureen Seals, tutoring for any age/many subjects

My kids just did a 3 hour session of English grammar with Maureen. 1. They said they had a blast and they thought it was only 1 hour. 2. As I sat there at the end while Maureen reviewed with them, I could see they had learned more in 3 hours than all last year with a really great homeschool program.
Sometimes a classroom interaction is what they need to “get it!” Plus, Maureen is so passionate about teaching it’s infectious.

Saturday morning language exchange

We kindly invite you to join our language exchange group Spanish-English/English-Spanish in the recently opened school, ¡Vamos!

The sessions are aimed at people willing to improve their conversational skills by putting them into practice in a realistic environment with native speakers.

The sessions are guided by a bilingual facilitator (a teacher with extensive experience in the field) who proposes the activities and conversation topics.

It involves several people whose native language is English and several people whose native language is Spanish. We get together so that the former can practice Spanish and the later can practice English.
Apart from the language learning, the sessions bring an excellent opportunity to meet and interact with local people while engaging in the city´s cultural activities.

Therefore, this language exchange complements formal language learning. It mainly serves for putting oral language skills into practice. Additionally, it provides a good opportunity to experience and gain an insight into aspects of Ecuadorian culture and Cuenca local life.

Please send us an email to confirm attendance as spots are limited.

September 17th, from 11 AM to 12:30 PM, $2 Voluntary Contribution, Calle Larga 11-43 (in front of Mercado 10 de Agosto), Cuenca.

Double D’s menu for the week of September 19

This menu has a cheesy theme. The casserole is a low-carb, roasted eggplant dish layered with a not-too-heavy cheese blend and our homemade marinara. Since the weather can’t figure out what it’s doing, we’re making a stew that’s not too heavy but satisfying all the same. Potatoes are cooked in a creamy base loaded with vegetables and chicken. The sweet is a twist on a childhood favorite from the neighborhood ice cream truck.
