Richard Minkin’s funeral

He was an angel for so many people. One of his closest and dearest friends Isabel Mosquera who was more than a friend but a sister.

A few words for Richard’s Memory:

“It will always be difficult to understand that death is part of life, but the most important thing is to recognize that good memories, lived experiences are what will remain in each of us. Richard was and will continue to be my great friend, a person who trusted in me and my family. I feel grateful to God for putting people with such warmth and with such a noble heart, I owe him my work and a network of friends that I consider as part of my family. Richard is an example of kindness, charisma and empathy, it is incredible how his solidarity spread and managed to help so many people who need support and a helping hand. I am sure that now he will be an angel who will be there from heaven to take care of us and protect us all. Thank you Richard for these years of friendship, always in my heart with total gratitude and affection.
Thank you for these years of friendship, you will be always my angel and I will keep you in my heart with total gratitude and affection for ever”.

We are having a memorial this Sunday, September 4th at 11:30 AM at the Campo Santa Ana, Sala Esperanza.

Everyone is welcome to join us.

Richard was born in 1953 in Wisconsin, USA.

Covid antigen spit (saliva) test for international flights to Ecuador

I was unable to get vaccinated based on my health history.

I need to make a trip to the US. Regarding my return flight to Ecuador, are antigen spit (saliva) tests currently being offered by labs in the US, with a 24 hour or less turnaround time. And will it be accepted by the airlines and Ecuador?

I prefer to avoid having a testing swab in my nose or throat

Many thanks,

Hello, my name is Samantha, and I’m raising funds to help out my friend, Jill, (Jay Dee on fB). We have been very close friends since high school. She is currently living abroad and running a dog rescue. Jill is well known in Cuenca, Ecuador for this dog rescue that she runs and for the animals she’s helped. In the last 5 years, she has helped save and re-home many street dogs and cats. Now, she needs help for herself. Not only is she caring for the current rescues, but she is caring for her toddler named Noah, who was born 16 mos ago at 37 weeks via emergency c-section and is pregnant with another boy who is due to be born any day now.

Sweet dog looking for a home

When Pepito was rescued he was malnourished and had skin problems due to malnourishment. He is now healthy and happy due to the loving care of his rescuers. He’s ready to start a new life that he deserves.

He is about 8-years-old so he’s more settled down than a puppy. He’s been neutered and had his shots. His 28 pounds makes him a small to medium sized dog. Pepito is sweet, playful and affectionate.

If you are interested in meeting him or another dog in rescue, please call Paola at 098 672 2197. Paola speaks English and is on WhatsApp.

Is your pet cold? La Mia Mascota Pet and Vet Shop

We had some really cold nights and days last week and the forecast is for more of the same next week. My friend tells me that her cats are seeking heat, looking for warm spots in the house and cuddling up – sometimes even under a blanket and 3 deep on her lap. When there is no sunshine, cats and dogs both get cold. Think about how cold your feet get on a cloudy day and remember that most of your pets live at a lower level than you do. Warm air rises; cold air does not.

Allow your pets to spend time in a warm room. Make sure they can be near a window where the sun shines in (if the sun is shining). If you have a thermal blanket, put the heat on low and let them rest on it, but be sure to control both the heat and the amount of time they spend on the blanket. Let them on your lap or in your bed in the cold of the night, if you can and if they don’t have fleas! (If they do have fleas, ask about our flea treatments).

Alternatively, you can supply them with a cozy bed or little house where they can keep warm inside or outside, depending on the type of house. we have several styles and some are really cute and cozy. At La Mia Mascota Vet and Pet Shop, we have some of those warm and cozy beds and houses for them. We also have cute/warm clothing to keep them warm in the house or out on a walk and new toys to keep them energized.

Come in and take a look – you’ll find something your pet will love. Remember, we have an English-speaking vet at our Las Americas location. He’ll be happy to help you. We can use Google Translator at El Vergel, Challuabamba, and in our veterinary offices if needed.

Recommendation for Crozcell, cell phone repair

My old Samsung 6 phone died. It would not charge at all. It would not start. I looked at GringoPost for a recommendation and found that Carlos Orellana had repaired phones others said could not be repaired. I called him and within 15 minutes he was at my door to pick up the phone and charger and cable. It was around 10:30 AM. At about 1:30 PM, there was Carlos returning my phone. He had called and explained the problem and the fee for fixing it and told me the cost but he didn’t say he would be delivering the phone to me that quickly – I expected to pay for the repairs before seeing the phone again. He cannot receive credit card payments, but it was worth it. For those who have used Carlos at Crozcell, he has moved and is no longer at the previous address.

Recommendation for Bryam Morocho, English speaking taxi driver

Sometimes when one goes to the bank, one doesn’t want to be out on the street with cash, so I called Emilio Morocho – a good friend. Emilio was busy but he gave me Bryam’s phone number. He arrived when he said he would, drove quickly and safely, and left me at the bank while he picked up another passenger to fill in my time at the bank (with my permission because I didn’t know how long it would take). When I was ready, he returned to pick me up and bring me home. Bryam speaks English and knows the city well. He could be a big help to those who are challenged when speaking to a Spanish only driver.

Thanks Bryam and Emilio. BTW, Bryam is Emilio’s son.
