Real stories from the Hogar- trying to get home

Juan Carlos and Maria worked together in Uruguay and had accumulated some savings. Their plan was to buy some land and build a house together. Then Covid hit. Maria fell very ill and as a result, she was left partially paralyzed. Juan Carlos spent all the money on private doctors and clinics trying to find a solution for her illness, however she did not get any better. With nothing left, they had no choice but to forget their dreams and go back home to Colombia where family could help take care of Maria.

Trying to get home, they ran out of money by the time they got to Cuenca. Then the paro hit. We were made aware of this case through one of our partners, The Pastoral Social of the Catholic Church. We provided a place for them to stay, for some much-needed rest. We got Maria a wheelchair, got her health stabilized and with our partners, provided transportation so they could reach their destination.

Every day, Foundation Hogar de Esperanza provides emergency services to those in need. Working with over 30 partners, we are able to compliment services offered by other organizations with your support.
