Next week at La Guarida

We are so glad that the strike is over! We are so happy to be back. Come join us!

– Gatos Negros on Independence Day–
July 4th (Monday, 6 PM).
‘Gatos Negros’ will bring the house down with an incredible array of oldies and rock and roll classics. Come celebrate this Independence Day at La Guarida. We are so very happy to be back, back with you, back at what we love to do the most: cook incredible dishes for your enjoyment. The best entertainment by far in the most intimate and acoustically perfect place in Cuenca. Admission: $7.00.

– Yasuní Man –
July 5th (Tuesday, 6:45 PM).
This film is about a conflict raging deep within the Ecuadorian Amazon. It’s a real-life Avatar story. Once under siege by missionaries seeking to civilize them, the Waorani people battle industry operatives and their own government in a fight to survive. Join filmmaker Ryan Patrick Killackey and his native friend Otobo as they embark on an expedition into the most bio-diverse forest on Earth. Witness what may be lost as oil companies encroach, human rights violations run rampant, and a forest Eden is destroyed – all for the oil that lies beneath Yasuni. It will help you understand why we suffered an 18-day strike!

– Even The Rain –
July 6th (Wednesday, 6:45 PM).
Telling an old story in a new way and infusing what might have been a dry political polemic with poetry, passion and unlikely warmth. Splendidly panoramic. The scenes of Columbus’s arrival and of his imperialist and religious sloganeering. The segments about the chaotic water riots have a documentary immediacy. Another great movie that sheds the light on social protests in Latin America.

– Renato Albornoz –
July 7th (Thursday, 7:30 PM – 10 PM).
Tango, Boleros and more will be highlighted in this musical experience with one of the finest guitarists Cuenca has. Renato will take us on a tour of different Latin American melodies, genres while showing his skills on the guitar. AdmissionL $6.

– China: Five-Course Menu –
July 8th and 9th (Friday and Saturday. 5 PM-9 PM)
We loved cooking Chinese food so much that we are doing it all over again. Two fun and delicious evenings of mouth-watering Chinese food. We are preparing 5 incredible dishes: Sesame Chicken, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Egg Drop Soup, Mushrooms and veggies in a dark tamarind sauce and of course dessert. Five courses for $20. A pairing menu for an extra $8 includes Bourbon Grapefruit Kombucha, Asahí “Dry” Lager and Green Gin Tea. Impossible not to love it.
