Always busy at Bernan’s Home Canned Foods

Hope your managing during these troubled times. Bernie and I have kept busy in our kitchen making all the foods you love. We knew it was coming and put it off as long as we could but, due to the ingredients in so many of our products going up…we have to raise our prices. They might get a little crazy for a while possibly going up again – or back down, if and when things start getting back to normal. We will keep our eye on them. I know this isn’t good news but it is what it is…


Now the good news is that one of our local suppliers was able to harvest some Hatch Chilies and Rhubarb. We have a limited supply of chilies in 4 oz. jars right now and we were told there should be more next month. Hopefully they will just keep coming! Also… this time, when we made our Strawberry Rhubarb pie filling we tried to make it chunkier too. When it gets processed it gets cooked so since there is a lot of juice in the rhubarb… it gets boiled out of the stalks.

I have been in contact with our corn supplier in Cotacachi and there is a good possibility for a good harvest sometime in July. Fingers crossed on that one! Other than that, it’s business as usual in Bernan’s home canned Kitchen…
