This week at La Guarida

We got gas! We are ready to go. We have prepared another incredible week for you, here at La Guarida.

– Downton Abbey: A New Era –
June 20th (Monday, 7 PM).
Completely sold-out.

– Portrait of a Young Lady on Fire –
June 21st (Tuesday, 6:45 PM).
The movie dramatizes the constraints of the era, the imposition of a narrow and religion-based morality, the stern discipline that’s internalized as a result, the elision of women and their world from public life, and the firm expectations of family and society that Héloïse will endure in her unwanted marriage. Yet it does more than merely depict them—it embodies them, in the characters’ poised stillness, which makes the airy surroundings feel as rigid as stone. A masterpiece.

– BPM [Beats Per Minute] –
June 22nd (Wednesday, 6:45 PM).
BPM is vital for the history it depicts, but it’s also important in the here and now, as a testament to public action — even messy, not-always-effective public action. A story that not just gets at how to combat institutional homophobia but institutional injustice. It shows how a loving community can come together and make their voices heard. Incredible acting, direction and writing. A simply spectacular film.

– Groove en Bara –
June 23rd (Thursday, 7:30 PM – 9 PM).
Join Naza Gomez and Esteban Encalada with their new band: Groove en Barca. Can’t miss this group composed of local powerhouse musicians from so many different backgrounds bringing you jazzy and Latin American tunes. Admission: $6. This fee goes directly to the musicians.

– China: Five-Course Menu –.
June 24th and 25th (Friday and Saturday. 5 PM-9 PM)
We loved cooking Chinese food so much that we are doing it all over again. Two fun and delicious evenings of mouth-watering Chinese food. We are preparing 5 incredible dishes: Sesame Chicken, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Egg Drop Soup, Mushrooms and veggies in a dark tamarind sauce and of course dessert. Five courses for $20. A pairing menu for an extra $8 includes Bourbon Grapefruit Kombucha, Asahí “Dry” Lager and Green Gin Tea. Impossible not to love it.

Remember that for our music and film evenings reservations with dinner are required.

We are located at Mariscal Lamar and Luis Pauta. A few meters from La Cuadra station on the Tranvia Path.

June 20th, from 6:45 to 9 PM, Free, Mariscal Lamar 22-23 y Luis Pauta, Cuenca.
