Last week while walking to Supermaxi along Ordoñez Lasso, a friend of mine encountered a frantic dog. He was running back and forth, looking for the scent of his owner. She tried to calm him and capture him, but was unsuccessful. The creature was frantic. Finally, they both ended up at the corner of Las Americas and Ordoñez Lasso and the dog was prevented from crossing Las Americas (a dangerous intersection for people as well as dogs). In moments, a man appeared, calling the dog by name. He explained that the housekeeper had left the door ajar and the dog had escaped. It wasn’t used to being outside alone and was looking for home. The dog had no collar and no microchip. Had my friend been able to gently subdue the dog, there would have been no way for her to locate the owner. Happy ending this time!
Microchip? While an identifying microchip may be common in many countries, it is not common here. In Cuenca, there may be a maximum of 10 veterinarians who have the capacity to read the chip. Once read, the question is “Is this an accurate name and address, since it gives a location in the United States and the dog is in Ecuador.” If the lost dog had a chip, finding a veterinarian who could read the chip would be a challenge and possibly a further challenge would be to find the owner.
The most up-to-date technology available in Cuenca is to engrave a tag for your pet. The tag should have the pet’s name and your phone number.
In La Mia Mascota Pet Shop Las Americas we have a machine that can engrave tags for your pets. It is especially important to put name tags on your four-footed friends so they can be located if they stray from home. The tag allows for the name and phone number. This engraving can be done while you wait and the finished item will be given to you within 5-10 minutes. There is a cost of $10 for each tag. The engraving machine is only located at our Las Americas location.
We have the complete line of the best foods for your family of four-footed friends available at all our locations. We have special products by Vital Can called Therapy.
