Maya and Bianca

This adorable, sweet and petite, mother and daughter duo were rescued from the forest by FAAN. They were scared, skinny, full of fleas, ticks and scabies. Now they are flourishing and looking for their forever home.

They are inseparable and would like to stay together. Maya is approximately 3-years old and is only 10 kilos full grown. Bianca is about 10 months. They are both sterilized, vaccinated, dewormed and have received flea meds.

Maya and her baby, Bianca, are considered to be very manageable, small-breed dogs!

Just look at those faces. Aren’t they precious? If you’re interested in meeting these love bugs, please contact me.

Relaxed Galapagos island hopping, October dates added

Additional dates added: October 10 -19, same itinerary, same price. Cuenca Expats, would you like to see the Galapagos without the 3-hour water crossings? Do you want to see Sierra Negra without the hike? Not a confident swimmer? Well, I’ve designed a small group, island hopping tour just for you!

Visit 3 islands via charter plane, ride a gentle horse to the rim of the volcano, try some snorkeling in a protected bay with access via wooden stairs. I’ll be your private guide and together we’ll explore the islands at an easy, relaxed pace.

Why should the kids have all the fun? I’ve designed a special relaxed tour for 7-8 people with an optional menu for those who want a bit more activity on certain days. Don’t be left out! Visit San Cristobal, Isabela, and Santa Cruz on this 10-day tour created especially for our travelers who prefer to take it easy.

Leave Cuenca June 7 and return June 16. We haven’t reached our minimum for June yet but time is running out.

This tour, with a minimum 7 people, is only $1380/person and includes inter-island flights and transport from Cuenca, Ecuador to Guayaquil, Ecuador and back.

Email me so I can send you the full tour itinerary PDF and answer any of your questions.

ACT auditions for “Custer” today and tomorrow

ACT is holding auditions for its upcoming production of “Custer” Monday and Tuesday April 25 and 26 from 10 – noon.

Auditions will be held at the Azuay Community Theater on Av. Ordonez Lasso, Cuenca, in the building just west of Hotel Oro Verde.

Custer, is a play in two acts, written by Robert E Ingham. The cast calls for 5 men and three women. This will be an Almost reader’s theater production. Much of the script will be with scripts in hand, though we will try to memorize some key scenes in which scripts would simply be too cumbersome. This will be an opportunity for actors with little experience to transition from total reader’s theater to a fully staged play. Most characters have at least one monologue, allowing for more complete characterization. This script presents an historically accurate depiction of what really happened at “Custer’s Last Stand.” Performances will be June 10, 11, 12 and 17, 18 and 19.

ACT is in the first building west of Hotel Oro Verde, AV Ordonez Lasso, Cuenca, EC

Aubocassa virgin, extra olive oil – Why so expensive?

Seriously, can anyone tell me why Aubocassa virgin, extra olive oil is $28 for 500ml?

Is it because it is cold extracted?
Is it because it contains 8.5Kilos (18.7lbs) of olives per liter?
Is it because it is from Mallorca, Spain?

Is it because it is graded Categoria Superior?

Whatever the reason, Those that know their olive oils, want it.

Available at Cuenca Shop.

Recommendation for Dra. Silvia Carrion, gastroenterologist

I was having some issues so I asked for referrals for a gastroenterologist on and several people recommended this doctor. I am so grateful for those referrals. I ended up having to have an endoscopy and colonoscopy.

The only bad part of the whole experience is the liquid you have to take to empty yourself out. (Hint, if you are inclined toward nausea ask her for an anti-nausea pill to take first.) When I went in for the procedure (at Hospital De Rio) The nurses prepped me and Dr Carrion came in. She assured me I had nothing to worry about and was very caring. They injected me with sedation and the next thing I knew, I was waking up to my husband standing next to me. I asked him when they were going to do it. He said it was all done and over with. I couldn’t believe it. I felt great.

After I got dressed Dra, Carrion explained what was found and showed me all the pictures and explained carefully what happens next. Biopsies and revisit in 10 days.

Suffice to say, I can’t recommend Dr Carrion enough. She is very caring and kind. She is professional and courteous. She speaks very good English.

Recommendation for Cesar Mejia (of T-Rex Burgers), chef extraordinaire

Everyone knows Cesar’s burgers are great but his lasagna remains a secret. Cesar makes his pasta himself. His beef and sausage lasagnas are wonderful and his veggie lasagna is as beautiful as it is delicious with roasted red peppers, eggplant cooked with red wine, spinach and ricotta and boiled egg slices. The lasagna is available by special order for delivery. I order six (huge) pieces at a whack so it’s always available in the freezer – quick, easy and scrumptious. The photo shows a slice that’s a little less than half of a piece. Cesar is fluent in English and a pleasure to work with.
