Recommendation for Le Moulin Restaurante, restaurant

Last night a group of 8 people including myself had a unique and wonderful dining experience at a relatively new restaurant called Le Moulin located at 12 de Abril 285, here in Cuenca. The setting itself is extremely charming with thick stucco walls, French doors overlooking the Rio Tomebamba, wide plank wooden floors, a traditional high reed ceiling with exposed beams, and unique wall scones and chandeliers which provide a soft lighting throughout the entire space. Apparently the building was originally some type of mill and the owners have played off that theme in terms of accessories along with large photos of “old” Cuenca.

Our group started the dining experience with various cocktails and was provided with complimentary bruschetta and bread with tapenade dip; all of which were excellent. The menu (in both Spanish and English) was extensive with a variety of seafood, beef, chicken, and pork dishes along with salads, soups, and appetizers. There are also specials each day and I had the chicken piccata special with potatoes and vegetables: which was both beautifully presented and savory. In addition, the desserts were excellent and the restaurant also provided the two people in our group who were celebrating birthdays, with their own personal cakes. The service was very attentive and the wait staff speaks English for the most part. Also, there are two outdoor seating areas available; one overlooking the river, with the other being right on the river, which makes it unique to the city of Cuenca.

They serve lunch as well and I am definitely going back on a sunny day to enjoy a meal while sitting on the banks of the Rio Tomebamba. Le Moulin is definitely a unique dining experience that Cuenca has to offer and I would highly recommend it to others.
